Once upon a time, on Friday, November 15th, 1901, an Edwardian brewer stepped into a London brewhouse and brewed a beer that confounds expectations many years later. An ale darker than most Porters that uses more hops than a modern IPA. Thanks once again to the talents of brewing historian, Ron Pattinson, we can reproduce this moment in time from the original brewday document. This ‘KK’ beer is brewed with several pale malts, brown malt, caramelized brewing sugars and two classic English hop varieties, Bramling Cross and Kent Goldings.
O.G. 1.075, 7.8% ABV.

65 cl bottle. Dark brown liquid with medium tan head. Aroma has malty notes, brittish hops, dark, roasty malt. Taste is not very sweet and medium bitter. Quite malty. Medium bodied with OK carbonation. OK old ale but not mindblowing and not that interesting. Too brittish for my liking.

Super! 11/13/13/13/14/13

Bottle from Firefly, Vancouver
Black color; creamy head, beige, persistent. The aroma is mild, yet very interesting, with roasted malts, coffee; a bit sweaty but also fruity; light vanilla; later it gets excellent, with loads of noble English hops.
Good body structure; strong flavor of dark chocolate and roasted malts; very good balance of roastiness and acidity from the malts, strong bitterness.
The roasted malt character is a bit too strong for my liking in the end; the alpha acids can clearly be perceived. But overall it’s an excellent, powerful, balanced beer.
