Cheri Cheri Lady, a Sour Imperial Stout aged in a used rum barrel, refermented with cherries
You might not have heard of or tried a sour stout before, as it's quite a niche beer style. This stout, with a relatively high alcohol content, was initially aged in French oak barrels that previously matured Mauritius sugar cane rum, developing a robust and rich flavor profile. After two years, the stout was re-fermented with cherries for a few weeks. The beer pours a light black with rosy edges and has an aroma reminiscent of a chocolate bar dropped by a child. The red wine notes hover around the edges of the sip, adding acidic hints of cherries and grapes, while the middle of the sip is a smooth imperial stout with chocolate undertones. There's a touch of roasted coffee, and the tannins from the barrel dominate the finish with a slight sourness.

Bottle from the brewery. Pitch black, tiny beige head, nonlasting. Mild nose, some chocolate with hints of sour cherries, some alcohol. Soem woody notes later on and it develops into a pleasant desert. Gentle bitterness, slight spices and wood. Soury, fruity with tart finish. Gentle and lasting aftertaste. Lighter body, hidden alcohol. Nice sour stout.
