Georgia Theatre vol. 2

Double Feature Belgian-Style Dubbel is named for the renovation of the Georgia Theatre building into an art deco movie house after 1918.

This “Belgian-Style Dubbel” is brewed with 100% Belgian Malts, and authentic Trappist yeast. This deep caramel colored brew has a delicate balance between sweet malt, estery yeast, a subtle bitterness, and mellow alcoholic warmth. All the characteristics of a fine Trappist Ale.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of sincereNC. Pours a clear amber with a small off-white head. Very fruity, estery and yeasty nose. Medium body, sweet pruney accents, brown sugar and heavy duty Belgian yeast leaving some friendly phenols. Hardly any bitterness. 230211

Slightly hazy medium amber body with an average off-white head. Sweet candy like aroma. Sweet and spicy flavor, no hops. Medium body, smooth and alcoholic.

Tasted a 22 oz. bottle with a friend. Pours a very dark gold color, much darker than your average dubbel, with almost no head at all. The aroma is roasted malts, caramel, toffee, and notes of cherries, dates, and pepper. The flavor is very sweet with some spiciness and a short bitter finish. The body is thin, but leaves a sticky mouthfeel. Overall, a very dark and strong dubbel, and very tasty.

Rubbery date and candi sugar on the nose, slight garbage disposal edginess. Murky copper, headless. Candied date flavor, with just a little rubbery funk. Alcohol quite evident. Oddly enough for this dubbel, it is wanting in sweetness, which is actually a nice departure from the cloying messes I’ve had lately, but this is just not sweet enough. The rubber notes are distracting. Neither this nor the Maggies Farmhouse from Terrapin were to my liking, but their other beers have been very good.

Bottle shared by Lt. Dan at Sourfest. Pours with a hazy golden-brown body with an off-white head. Aroma of brown sugar and maple. Light earthy hop presence. Taste is molasses, brown sugar and some fruit. Creamy carbonation. Nice.
