A hazy orange beer with a small beige head. The aroma is hazy a faint note of beechwood smoke, and also hints of caramel. The flavor is woody dry with a light note of smoke.

On draught at the brewery, March 2005. Having never cared for hemp ales (or more accurately, having never had a hemp ale for which I’ve cared), I didn’t go in to this with much expectation. Warm-toned, clear amber colored beer, with a little bit of vibrant orange and a small white head. Smells of dry fruits (peach and apricot) with a clean ale yeast presence and some lightly sweet, nutty malt. Flavor is nowhere near the horribly astringent, bland hemp ales I’ve had prior to this. Far from it, in fact, as this one was quite tastey. I don’t know about all of this talk of hemp, smoke and hazelnut, but it seemed like a lightly chewy, crystal malted amber ale, with some fresh, mildly citric hops to finish and a wonderful lightly creamy body that I really enjoy about this brewery. It’s difficult to rate these beers highly, as they seem to be more about execution and subtlety, but this is fantastically well-brewed, I feel, and I have no problem giving it high marks.

Copperish color, with a tinges of red. The beer was balanced more towards the rich caramel maltiness than the floral hop undertones.

Red copper ale with a nice white head. Sweet candy malt with a discreet bitterness ...is this a result from using hemp...not bad, but knowing the brewery, not my favorite.

Amber malts, touches of hemp; dry character and lots of crystal malt; crisp bitterness underneath. Good balance and more hemp than most of this type.
