Its name is “Strong”, like its character. Its personality is regal, like the historical variety from which it descends and to which it belongs. A beer made with only the finest quality select malts, it harmoniously blends notes of liquorice and nuts with hints of roasted coffee. Before leaving the palate, it offers a pleasing aftertaste of hops that makes it unforgettable. After admiring the deep amber red colour, discover its sweetness – it will astound your senses once again.

28/08 0.33 l bottle from Coop store, Gradisca d’Isonzo. It poured copper body with smaller head. Caramel malty and a bit alcoholic aroma. Slightly bitter, alcohol biting flavor, malty in honey and overripe peach way, being sweetish on that side. Medium body with sharp and crude fruity finish. A bit boring and quite a disappointment, like on almost all of their other beers, after I tried their pale ale which was great.

Another one of heavy’s (thanks!) Poured a brown-amber body with a small white head. Carrot, dust light honey in the nose and something I can’t decypher. Fruity malty taste, light crappy yeastiness. Ok.

Pours copper with a large fading head.Nose shows lots of caramel, melanoidings, caramelised banana, treacle and hazelnuts.Very sweet-tasting, lots more of those rich malty characters. Unfortunately there’s a cardboard note and the alcohol has a bit too much kick.Thick syrupy body works well with the rich flavours.Smells lovely but doesn’t quite follow through.

330ml bottle carried all the way back home from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo. Has got a super clear, amber-brown body topped by a creamy, fast fading, off-white head. Spotty lace. Caramel malts to the nose, almost candy sweet. The flavour is also very sweet with notes of chocolate and brittle caramel. Hints of bitter malts to the ending. Soft in the mouth with unmasked alcohol. Medium bodied. Has got its moments of joyful drinking (Tromsø, 10.06.2011).

Medium beige head. Deep brownish read body with carbonation. Alcoholic bubble gum aroma with strawberry notes. Dry-sweet earthy spicy fruity taste with mealy soy sauce notes. Full-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel with some alcohol heat and slickness. Dryish alcoholic herbal vegetable aftertaste with mealy soy sauce and bubble gum notes. Not very impressive, really. Far too much alcohol and bubble gum. (0.33l bottle, wine monopoly Vika, Oslo.)

0.33l bottle. Pours a semi clear ruby dark body with a creamy off-white head. Aroma is dark malty with some more dark fruits, caramel, ripe fruits and something that actually reminds me of what snow smells like. Full-bodied, average carbonated and has a nice oily to almost creamy mouthfeeling. Nice and malty flavors, some caramel, quite low on the bitterness and ends with a little alcohol in the finish. Absolutely decent strong ale this.

330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8.5%. Reddish brown colour, moderate off-white head of good retention. Sweetish aroma of caramel, molasses and raw alcohol. The fairly sweet flavour has also notes of caramel and molasses, hints of dark dried fruits and liquorice. Too moderate hops. The alcohol is not well hidden.
