Raspberry Brown Ale
Frambozen begins with the aroma of fresh red raspberries, followed by the ripe seductiveness of a fruity brown ale with depth and delicate malt notes. It is deep ruby in color, with flavors just as rich. Every year, New Belgium sends a delegate to the Pacific Northwest to oversee the process of turning freshly picked berries into a pure juice to be added in fermentation. The coming of Thanksgiving at New Belgium is ushered in with the first sighting of our cellar operators scuttling about, covered head to tow in a festive crimson berry wash.

Thanks to beerhandy for this bottle - deep ruby/garnet color - musty, tart raspberry aroma, quite full yet delicate and mild at the same time - a bit thin - mostly raspberry, with small undercurrents of chocolate and spice - thin, watery finish - another NB product that kind of disappoints.

Poured a tradional brown ale color with hints of red and amber. Tastes of malts, and raspberries. The fruitness is clearly present in this brew, but not an overpowering type of taste. I enjoyed this beer and would recommend it to anyone who likes fruit beers.

Thanks to Enniskillen for this ale. Transparent ruby-brown ale, with a reddish brown head that laces the glass. Nice fresh raspberry aroma. Slighty sweet, malty-raspberry flavor with a hint of sourness in the aftertaste.

Thanks to csbosox for sending this a while back. Clear deeply colored brown body that has a deep red running through it. On top is a generous head of creamy blush that coats the glass as it relaxes and slips below. Tart fruit and cream aroma. Smooth slightly sweet with a touch of fruit that adds but doesn’t over power the malt. Alcohol completely hidden in this. Well balanced, not too tart or too sweet.

2004 bottle compliments of csbosox who sent an incredible assortment of stuff I’ve never tried. Anyways, I got all excited before opening this only to have the usual New Belgium disappointment. I don’t know what it is, they filter the absolute lifeblood out of this. They should win an award for most filtered beers. Beyond that it’s got a decent raspberry and brown caramel and toffee malt flavor, but it’s just so mediocre. Like a brown ale with a touch of raspberry puree. Great color, aside from being absolutely clear. Aroma of caramel, tobacco, maple and raspberry. Too much hops as well, on the end; a very dry bitterness without any real sweetness, just some fruit acidity.

Bottle. Brownish color with a nice beige head. Raspberry and sweet chocolate aroma. Cocoa and raspberry flavor. Medium body, easy to drink. Reminds me a bit of the raspberry cream sees candy. Just enough tartness and sweetness to make it well balanced and to give some depth.

Bottle Pours a clear dark Mahogany with a modest light brown head. Nice lacing as well. Aroma is the typical brown ale dark malts light hops and there is the Raspberry as well. Not too strong and compliments nicely. Flavor has more of the Ras than I expected. Not too sweet goes very well with the other dark malty flavors. Quite nice. Feel is very smooth and heavy. Quite soft carbonation and a woody/Ras trailer. Yum !

Pours clear deep red with a medium tan head. Raspberry aroma (surprise?). The description mentions an "exceptional depth of flavor" but I didn't quite find that- the pleasant raspberry flavor hides a touch of chocolate and finishes dry with just the right alcohol touch. Lighter flavor and body than some of the better fruit beers but still satisfying. Thanks hopsrus!

Sweet and syrupy. This is one of those beers you have to twist the bottle to get the beer to pour. Nice color and aroma though. Raspberrys were used out the wazoo on this beer. The first sniff and taste is raspberrys. Like old gradmas jam. Overall haveing one,just one, of these on a cold evening is not all bad. This beer would suit anyone who likes a really sweet wine.

Thanks to AustinMilbarge for this one. This is one of the better Fruit Beers I have tried, mostly because the fruit flavoring is not as in-your-face. Pours a dark ruby color with a thin light beige head and almost no lacing. Aroma is all raspberry. As mentioned, the raspberry flavor is less pronounced than in similar beers, it does taste more like a beer with raspberry added than a raspberry beer. Despite not being particularly strong, this would probably get old after the first couple. Finish is smooth but gets a little sour toward the end.
