bottle from Bierzwerg. Clear golden colour, mid-sized white head. Grainy nose. Malty base, grainy, dusty, hints of bitter hops. Not bad.

Bottle. Honey and hay malt aroma - actually kind of nice. Golden yellow color with minimal head. Slightly sweet barley malt and lightly bitter hay hops flavor. Really pretty good for an African pale lager.

12oz bottle. Straw yellow with a super-soapy, steady head. Slight haze. Clean aroma, a touch of distant lemon maybe. Creamy, soft carbonation. As I remembered it, this beer is not bad at all. Somewhat like a noble hopped cream ale, there is a lot of doughy character. Not much hop character, just some faint lemon-peppery spiciness. Subtle and super drinkbable. Excellent session beer, well done.

Bottle brought to me from Malt and Vine in Redmond, WA at the 8th Richmond Gathering on 06/06/2009. Somewhat hazy pale golden orange body with a medium creamy off-white head. Sweet honey and corn aroma. Sweet corn flavor with lots of honey and some dry graininess. Medium light body with moderate carbonation.

12 ounce bottle courtesy of maniac. Thanks! Pale amber color with a thin head. Aroma is strong honey notes with some raw barley notes. Taste is grain, honey, light bitterness and something stale and musty in the finish. Thin-medium bodied.

Bottle at Queen Sheba in Sacramento, CA. Slightly hazy light gold color with a fine, strong white head. Light grain aroma. Near medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is lightly bready with a strong dose of citric and noble hop. Arguably an ungespundent pils. Quite good.

Hazy light blond color. Some aroma of straw and almost no flavor, low bitterness, a bit honeyish. Useless.

(Bottle 33 cl) Pours a slightly hazy golden with a white head leaving some laces. Sweetish malt aroma. Medium body with a sweet, unclean malt profile. Finishes fairly dry though. Tasted at The Axum Cafe in San Francisco. 210307

Bottle at Awash Ethiopian Restaurant in D.C. on 1/20/07
Stark white head is actually fairly dense, though small. It slowly recedes to partial-cover, leaving no lacing behind. Bubbly/fizzy liquid is a deep bronze. High clarity.
Papery acetyldehyde meets spoiled fruits and light sulphur. Peachy and lightly milky, there nonetheless does seem to be some malt sweetness behind the flaws. Powdered sugar rounds out the finish, with more apples and peaches and I’m left wondering where the beer went. No alcohol apparency, medium strength of aroma.
Wet, actually undercarbonated texture imparts a sweet, not-quite wholesome flavor of light honey and dough, but some light sourness and spoiled fruit flavors sit rather heavily on the end. Not oxidized, and the beer seemed to be selling fairly briskly while I was at the restaurant, so I dont think it’s a case of it being too old. Furthermore, the beer was kept refrigerated so it hadn’t gone bad on the shelf. Perhaps the trip from Ethiopa to America? More likely, poor brewing exacerbated by the usual pasteurization and filtration. Light body, some doughiness and heavy powdered sugar-like sweetness. No alcohol noted.
