Bottle @ Ratman’s house. Thanks Armin! Pours an orangish brown appearance with a brown head. Woody smoky, a touch meaty, caramel, herbal, woody aroma. Chewy malty, caramel, burnt malty, woody smoky flavor. Pretty tasty.

Location: 16.9 oz bottle from Whole Foods Bowery, 1/8/13

Aroma: The nose has some roast and coffee, with smoked malts, and a little wood
Appearance: Pours a dark brown color with a frothy light brown head and plenty of drippy lace
Flavor: Tastes malty and roasty, mildly sweet, mildly smokey, and with a mild woody bitterness
Palate: Medium bodied, feels kind of creamy, with average carbonation, and a fairly short duration
Overall Impression: This is a solid Porter, but it's nothing special. It's well made and plenty enjoyable, but I guess I just expected a little more. The smoke is also more subtle then I expected, it definitely doesn't have a ton of Rauch feel to it.

On tap. Pours with a near black body with reddish highlights and a tan head that lasts. Aromas are of cola, vanilla, roast, dark fruits and smoke. Flavors are smokey, cola, dark fruits, anise, roast and a nice malty breadiness. Mouthfeel is a touch thin, medium dry, good stuff.

On tap at Barcade, Brooklyn. It pours deep ruby-brown with low, but sharp carbonation and a thin tan head. The nose is smoke, charcoal, bonfire, wood, caramel and leather. The taste is caramel, charcoal, cherry, plum, dark chocolate and bacon with a dry smokey finish. The mouth-feel is slightly sticky and the flavours are well-balanced. An enjoyable smoked porter.

The Fulton Grand, Brooklyn tap ($6): Pours a black body with a creamy beige head. Aroma is mostly of roasted malts and coffee. There is really not all that much smoke. The body of the beer is on the the lighter side and is very creamy from the tap. Roasted malts make a strong showing, but they are not as smoky as they could have been in a smoked porter. Some chocolate notes are also present. When I drink a smoked porter, I generally want it to be a little bit more on the smoked side, but this is still an excellent and sessionable porter.
