Cask@GBBF2010. Dark ambery brown colour, small head. Aroma is roasted malts, liquorice, some ashes as well as mild wood and toffee. Flavour is rather much the same in a nice balance.

3rd August 2010. GBBF
Dark muddy brown beer. Light semi dry palate. Tangy dark malt with a pronounced fruity tang. Turns dry. Obvious smoke - borderline overkill but you get used to it. Finishes dry.

Cask at GBBF ’10. Dark brown pour with no head. Chocolate, smoke, wood and vanilla nose. Coffee, smoke and bitter chocolate flavours. Slightly bitter, Smoky, woody finish. I’m convinced I got the end of the barrel here, I have a feeling this would’ve been a lot better fresh.

Cask gravity at GBBF (I think, as Thomas passed some of this onto me, I hadn’t noted the dispense) Trade Day 03-08-10 Pours dark, dark brown, flat in appearance. Slightly sour fruitiness on the nose, some peach skin. This is full on in the mouth, but quite lovely. There is cocoa, fruit some smokiness but didn’t really get that much. Just a really tasty beer, complex and fruit as you like. A8 A4 T8 P4 Ov16 4.0

RBWG 2010. Growler from a trade with tgncc. Pours dark brown with thin tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate and some smokiness. Roasty, smokey and chocolaty flavors. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Very nice. Thanks Tom.

I have had this a bunch of times so figured i shoud finally rate. tasted again yesterday at brewery. Pours black and smells malty and of chocolate. Doesn’t tasted overly smoked to me but a little roasted flavor is in there. One of my go to Captain Lawrence beers for growler fill ups.

Growler pour courtesy of jdubFL. It pours dark brown with light tan head. The aroma is roasty, black licorice, some chocolate, a light dark fruitiness and really no "smoke" noticed. The taste is full with robust dark roasted malts heading to nearly burnt malts to go along with lesser amounts of chocolate malts and black licorice. Like the nose I really get no smoke in this smoke porter.

A deep dark porter with mahoganny hues, and a thin moka head. A good aroma of intense chocolate with light peated noted. In mouth, a smooth chocolate with light peated coffee beans, very subdued, a bit thin, but quite pleasant. Cask at Syracuse Real Ale Festival, Oct. 23 2009.
