[9/24/15] Draught at Arendsnest in Amsterdam. Dark brown to black. Aroma of licorice, spice, some roast. Sweetish flavor of roast, lots of licorice, bitter finish. Medium-bodied. Too much licorice for me.

On tap at Arends Nest Amsterdam. Black beer lasting tan head. Some herb element chocolate on the aroma. Some liquorice in the mouth. Really not my thing at all. It’s a herbal liquorice chocolate cocoction that is quite dry on the finish but not my flavour profile.

Zwart met licht bruine kraag. Aroma van chocolade, aards, noten, gebrande mout. Smaken zacht/glad, laurier erg nadrukkelijk aanwezig, droppig, chocolade, gebrande mout, smaakvol (erg), zwak bitter, matig zoet, gladde textuur, iets romig, matige/redelijke body, ook iets dun, afdronk is lang laurier droppig. Sehr dunkel orangebraune Farbe, geringe beige Schaumkrone. Geruch nach Anis, leicht röstmalzig, Karamell. Geschmack nach dunklem Malz, Karamell, Rübensirup, kaum schokoladig.

Bottle @ DØE meeting. Pours dark brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, light licorice, herbs, laurel. Flavor is malty, caramel, english licorice, laurel. Thin to medium body, average to lively carbonation. Laurel is about the last thing that ill fancy in my beer, but this actually works far better than expected. 150715

Bottle @ benzai. Dark brown to black with a small off-white head. Smells laurel, liquorice, sweet. Tastes laurel, roasty, wiebertjes, sweet. Medium body, lasting liquorice taste, soft carbo. I think the brewers should ’drop’ this one.

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus. Opaque very dark brown to black color with a slight dark red glare coming through when held into the light, small light brown head. Aroma and taste are both the same and very easy to describe: liquid laurel liquorice. So it is well brewed since I expect this is intentional, but do I like it? Hmm not so much.

Bottle from Biernavigatie, BB Febr March 2016, large sample. Dark color, medium frothy brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, laurel, licorice, slight rosemary and honey. Laurel licorice candy comes out quite nicely. Also in taste, bit spicy from licorice, slight bitter. Like liquid laurel licorice candy. Quite interesting. Quite smooth in taste as well, well balanced. Very decent stuff.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ W. van Schaik, Vianen. Dark brown with a beige head. Licorice aroma with bay leaves and roasted malts. Taste is medium bitter. A bit too much licorice and bay leaf in my opinion but overall a good porter.

Bottle. Very dark brown with beige head. Mint, licorice, drop, bay leaves, seaweed, tar, red berries, strawberrry jelly, some roasted grains somewhere in the background. Taste is medium sweet with a light fresh tartness and spicy bitter finish. Medium bodied and slightly slick feel. Not bad, the bay leaves is quite strong and overpowers the base beer, but it works OK.
