Cask at the Old Black Bulk, Preston. Pours clear light brown with a thin white head. Aromas of... Well... Faint nuttiness maybe. Taste is very thin. Forgettable finish.

Some roasted malts in the aroma. Flavour is not particularly intense but there’s slightly smokey, dark roasted malt taste in the finish.

On cask at the White Lady. Appearance - nearly opaque black with some toffee coloured chinks around the glass. Nose - a little elusive but some molasses. Taste - more molasses plus honeycomb. Then liquorice to the finish. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a pleasant drying finish. Overall - wouldn’t call it a stout but it’s as good aa I’ve had from Arran.

Bottle from Booths. Sweetened stout with plenty of roasted malts in the nose, but not overdone. Darker reddish-brown in colour with a frothy head.

Cask @ Diggers, Edinburgh [300413]
Dark caramel brown, dense off white head, some lacing
Aroma of roasted malts, touch ashy, dab of burnt toasted bread
Taste of roasted malt, dab of plain chocolate, some dark berry fruits on sides of tongue, bit restricted in flavour but the fruits come out in the finish
Palate - thin to medium body. Finish as main flavour with red berries dunked in plain chocolate
Overall - Not really a stout to me - more a light porter/premium bitter/dark lager hybrid - mishmash of styles. It’s meant to be an oatmeal stout....???. It’s not bad, it’s actually the best beer i’ve had from this brewery - the finish is flavoursome but it’s rather flat in the middle
