From a 750ml bottle on 7/1/2014 (2012 edition, bottle no. 3164 of 7000). Pours a cloudy dark orange with a slight head. Has a surprisingly modest aroma with hints of sweet malt, caramel, fruit and a touch of yeast. Flavour wise, this is a very sweet one, and dominated by fruit, particularly pineapple, strawberry, orange and cherry, against a background of light caramel and toffee malt. It exhibits a slight tart bitterness at the back, which includes just a touch of warming alcohol. The palate is slick and the carbonation is low to medium. This is a curious drop on a number of levels. Style wise, it comes across as a light barley wine. It strikes me as a dessert beer but lacks a bit of balancing bitterness to make it a real winner. That said, it is an interesting beer, beautifully packaged, and a rarity for a CUB product in that it’s actually a decent (if ridiculously expensive) brew. I probably won’t be rushing back to have another any time soon, but am glad to have given it a try.

75cl bottle thanks to Danny. Pours a beautiful deep red/amber. There is a fair bit of yeast suspended. The nose has a beautiful toffee and biscuits. The taste has loads of treacle and nuts, I guess praline. The palate is rich and full with a lovely elegant and restrained finish. A lovely beer, probably the best beer I’ve had from Australia.
