Bottle from The Beerhive. Murky amber body with a medium off-white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of sultanas, oak and a hint of smoke. Flavour of dried apricot, caramel, almond and a boozy finish. Medium body with a sticky mouthfeel. Light fizz. Rich and heavy.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; dark brown pour with a creamy beige head, aroma has sweet caramel, taste has red fruits, pretty big caramel action, bitterness is there, bitter, ok.

Hazy amber beer, tidy cream colour head. Palate is airy, semi dry and has decent fine carbonation. Spice. Mildly sweet malts, smooth and dry. Little ripe orange. Mild bitterness. Any oak influence is very well buried. Dry finish. Pretty simplistic barleywine that for me does not deliver enough richness or complexity for it’s near double digit abv.

Bottle from Corks of Cotham, Bristol. Deep copper in colour, with a slight haze and small, off-white, head. Aroma of citrus hops, orange peel, spice, oak and warming alcohol. Full mouthfeel, with flavours of blood orange, dried apricot, almond and strawberry, before some oaky richness and a dryish finish with a hoppy kick and long lasting boozy afterglow. A very good modern take on barley wine.
