Summer Ale is a traditional American wheat beer with a crisp malted wheat flavor.
A lively brew, it’s a clean, cool, and refreshing light bodied ale, worthy of a relaxing afternoon in the sun. This brew is an ode to summer in Maine and pairs well with lobster, beaches and sunshine. This beer is best enjoyed outside with a lime wedge.

Bottle from a trade with Daknole. Pours with a small white head that fades in 30 seconds. Golden brown body underneath. Aroma of honey, biscuit and cardboard. Not many wheat notes. Taste is bitter with cardboard, wheat and corn. Fizzy.

Draft at the Thirsty Whale. Fairly run-of-the-mill summer ale. Yet, there is something about Shipyward beers that gives them a tartness on first taste. Pour reveals a nice golden body with a small head. Not much to the aroma — some wheat and grass with hints of bread along with some floral hops. The taste is moderately sweet, moderately acidic and lightly bitter. Light to medium body with a watery texture. Dry finish. Not a favorite.

Pours bright gold into a shaker. White head recedes leaving sheet lacing. No aroma. Crisp sweet malt upfront with lasting slightly bitter finish.

On tap at a restaurant on a lobster dock in Maine, which is pretty much the best way to sample a beer like this. Golden-amber colour. Lightly spicy aroma. The flavour is light and crisp, with diacetyl, apple and a hint of fruit. Quick, crisp finish. Hits the moment but may not translate to other settings very well on account of the simplicity and diacetyl.

A fairly well hopped American wheat. Aroma citrusy with the typical lemon of wheats plus a grassy grapefruity hoppiness. Flavor much the same, citrusy and hoppy, and also rather grainy/wheaty. Amber color, modest fizzy head.

Bottle. Orange/golden color. Aroma is sweet fruits, mostly citrus and wheat. Aroma is light, and pretty refreshing, but there isn’t much else here. I’d like this one on a hot day.

Bottle. Sweet-sour cherry/apple malt aroma. Bright golden yellow with moderate head. Light wheat/barley malt flavor with a slight hint of berry. Nice beer - just would have like a more intense flavor. A good lawnmower/beach beer.

Bottle: Poured a golden color ale with a small bubbly white head with limited retention. Aroma of weak malt with some yeast. Taste of weak wheat malt is overall quite boring with again a weird and off taste of yeast coming through. Light hops at the end provide a dry aftertaste. Definitely boring for a style that doesn’t produce much in term of great beers.

Nose of grain and banana esters with a tiny citrus note, fairly standard wheat aroma. Deep gold with a small white head; flavor of wheat, malt and bananas, with a little hops in the finish. Good summer wheat, nice fruitiness without being too sweet.
