Oude Geuze VAT 110 has foeder No. 110, a cognac storage vat in a previous life, to thank for its light dry but exceptionally full-bodied taste, finished with a hint of vanilla and dry fruit. This Oude Geuze is epitomised by a wealth aromas, cultivated by the wild Brett yeasts in the vat.

Bottle, 375ml corked. A clear golden colored beer with a small, dense, white head. The aroma has a touch of booze, with citrus more than lemon, a light funk and an unusual but nice spiced, peppery touch. It's dry and tart, with a nice carbonation level. Cognac notes, some peppery hints, lemon, grapefruit and barnyard. Flower hints. Lasting funky finish. Not sure about this one, there's something unusual going on, but I like it anyway. 190906

Bottle, bb 12/36. Amber with a a white head that fades to an inch and never quite disappears. Aroma is rich and mellow with zingy brackenish funk notes over the top. Toast, poached quince, peach blossoms. Creamy, highish carbonation. Rich brioche, caramel, peach before taut funky notes grip towards a drying finish. The finish has a bit of grilled pineapple about it. Very good.

Bouteille: Deep golden, hazy, no head to speak of, but a kind of carbonation is still visible, the sourish cellary-musty nose is dominated by lemony and also (sweetish!!!) woody-vinous aromas; solid sour-sweet flavour, full bodied, surprisingly soft for a Gueuze; lingering sour-sweet vinous-woody and lemony finish. Chapeau...

0.375 l bottle from 'Belgiuminabox.com', bottled in December 2016, cellared for almost two years. A little hazy, deep amber with a thin, frothy, almost stable, off-white head. Minimally sweetish, sourish, quite funky and gently fruity aroma of ripe lemon, leather, horse blanket, oak and some gooseberry. Minimally sweet, gently sour, rather funky, woody, quite fruity taste of horse blanket, leather, overripe lemon, oak, even some tobacco and a touch of gooseberry, followed by a medium long, gently tart, fairly woody-dry, quite funky finish. Medium body, gently astringent and quite effervescent mouthfeel, lively carbonation. Very complex and funky Gueuze, less fruity than most of the other variants by Boon, nicely rustic.

Corked bottle, Sergey's hunt
Hazy golden colour. A bit of astringency and acidity, faint cellar smell, but it's so less interesting than the rest of the series, and to the point that it's even hardly a Gueuze.
Good, but not great.
