80 Shilling is Belhaven’s classic, hand-pulled, cask-conditioned ale - just like great great great grandpa would have had. It has a classic red appearance in the glass, rich and smooth. An Austrian Emperor once described 80/- as ’the burgundy of Scotland’. Not sure how many he’d had, but the man clearly had taste.

On cask at Golden Acorn (JDW) in Glenrothes - Clear brown body, long lasting creamy head. Malty and nutty on the nose, sweetish malt at the start, bit of grassiness and fruit, quite decent.

Cask at the Hereward, Ely. Reddish brown, pancake flat, almost no head. Hint of biscuity malt aroma. Taste is sweet with a medicinal woody bitterness. Finish is more balanced, with an attractively savoury tannic note at the end. Weak body. Not a complete shambles, but the bad outweighs the good.

4.2% Cask gravity at Planet Thanet BF 2015. Clear mid brown colour disappearing head. Brown twiggy bitter. Headgerow fruits. Good fruit I thought somewhere between strawberry and rhubarb. Enjoyable enough. Ok condition decent drying hop on the finish.
