80 Shilling is Belhaven’s classic, hand-pulled, cask-conditioned ale - just like great great great grandpa would have had. It has a classic red appearance in the glass, rich and smooth. An Austrian Emperor once described 80/- as ’the burgundy of Scotland’. Not sure how many he’d had, but the man clearly had taste.

Cask at The Scottish Real Ale Festival 2014. Pours clear brown, no head. Malty sweet aromas, not as raisiny as I was expecting, light sulphur note too. Taste is sweet, finishes clean enough. OK.

cask at City Walls in Stirling - Pours hazy amber with a lingering off-white head. Smells mainly of caramel malt. Light. The flavor is of sweet malt with mild balancing hops. It’s medium bodied and quite drinkable. Nothing special though.

Bottled(500ml). -as Belhaven 80 Schilling Classic Choice.
Dark amber coloured, medium sized off-white head, light toffee nose. Sweet malty, toffee and caramel with nutty and cocoa notes. Not so watery as I’ve expectedbut still thin brew.

Cask-conditioned at the Victoria, Clifton, Bristol 26/01/09. Dark amber with a slight, off-white head. Malty aroma of raisins and chocolate. Flavour was sweet, with plenty of chewy caramel and a short dry finish. Fine.

Cask, half pint, hand pulled at Cumberland Bar in Edinburgh. Dark amber body, covered by a filmy, white head. Smell of dark chocolate malts. The taste has got more of caramel malts to it than the aroma. Foamy mouthfeel. Easy going session beer [24.10.2008].
