A stunning example of an ESB using all English ingredients including being hopped with Challenger and East Kent Goldings. It pours a rich mahogany in colour with a floral, spicy aroma; flavours of caramel and toffee mix with a sprinkling of hazelnut for a well rounded and very enjoyable drink. Collaboration with Kirkstall Brewery especially for their Great Exhibition of Prize Ales.

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours ruby red with a medium sized frothy off-white head and good lacing. Malts to the fore in the aroma, plus traces of summer fruits and spices. In the mouth it is sweet with a creamy texture, but also somewhat watery. There’s a lot of flavours trying to burst out here, malts, caramel, toffee, cherries and fudge. Later on some hints of nuts and spice as well. Finish has a mix of uits, spice and bitterness. This is rather nice and is a decent ESB, but just seems to be lacking a certain something.
