35cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Black color, dense beige-brown head. Aroma of liquorice, a bit of the promised anise, roasted malts, light ashy, coffee. Flavour of liquorice, some dark chocolate, roasted malts, some caramel, ash, molasses, malty bitter finish with more liquorice (drop). Medium to full bodied, slick. Nothing crazy, just well-made and tasty.

Pitch black pour, visibly thick, with a dark espresso head that is slow to rise to the surface. Smells like roasted malts, dark cherries, walnuts, lactose and scotch whiskey. Promising! The taste doesn’t disappoint - dried fruit (figs, raisins) covered in dark chocolate, freshly roasted coffee beans, vanilla, oak. A warm spicy aftertaste with notes of pepper and anise. Super thick mouthfeel, a bit choking at times, but quite pleasant. No carbonation present.

Bottle @ home. Opaque black color, average to medium sized brown head that lasts for quite a while and leaves good lacing. Aroma is malts, lightly roast, some chocolate. Taste malts, again a touch of roast and quite some chocolate, subtly bitter. Oily texture, medium body, medium carbonation. Nice one!

Das Bier ist sehr dunkelbraun, fast schwarz mit einer großen bräunlichen Schaumkrone. Geruch nach Vanille, reifen dunkel Früchten, Kakao. Geschmack nach sehr viel Karamell, Vanille, süß, Anis, Kakao, leicht alkoholisch, gut!

Bottle...pours black w/ a cocoa colored head....*smell* roasted malts-molasses-dark chocolate(bakers).....*flavor* coffee-molasses-toasty roasted malt-touch of brown sugar-dark chocolate-sweet yet hearty-a pretty solid imperial stout-as it sits, I get a little raisin/prune tasty....sticky on the lips...I would drink this again...rating from 3-2-2010
