22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 12/17/2012. Pours hazy nearly opaque dark reddish brown color with a 1 finger fairly dense tan head with decent retention, that reduces to a ring of lace that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of huge raisin, prune, fig, pear, apple, caramel, molasses, toffee, toast, brown bread, light chocolate, tobacco, leather, herbal, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Incredible aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and fruity yeast ester notes; with great strength. Taste of big raisin, prune, fig, pear, apple, caramel, molasses, toffee, toast, brown bread, light chocolate, tobacco, leather, herbal, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of raisin, prune, fig, pear, apple, caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, brown bread, light chocolate, tobacco, leather, herbal, light pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity of dark/bready malt and fruity/earthy yeast ester flavors; with an awesome malt/yeast balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and lightly syrupy mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is an insane English Barleywine. All around incredible complexity and balance of dark/bready malt and fruity yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. An extremely amazing offering.

Draft - Sweet plum, toffee and dark berries. Jet black no head. Candy sweetness, almost like the powdered grape and a bubblegum finish. A bit too sweet for my taste.

2009 Vintage shared by brewandbbq, thanks for the opportunity Jeff? Pours a deep amber brown with a smallish off white head that dissipates quickly. Smells of brown sugar and toffee with a hint of smoke and chocolate. Light earthy herbal aroma rounds out the nose nicely. The flavor is sweet with sugary malts hints of cherry and toffee with some light earth and smoke. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet slick mouthfeel. Hard to believe this is 13% but maybe the barrel aged stouts before this numbed my palette a bit. Nice English style barleywine that I’d like to revisit one day.

22oz bottle from The Beerhive
Appearance: Clear mahogany with a small tan head and light lacing
Aroma: Toasted malts and sweet toffee
Taste: Sweet caramel, dark fruit and hot alcohols
OK, but very sweet and hot alcohols were overpowering. Some age on this might help smooth it out.

Bomber pours a perfect deep mahogany with thin dark tan head. The modest aroma offers up plums, raisins, dark candi sugars and a sense of sweet maltiness. The taste is bold with essentially the same notes with plums and raisins mixing with Belgian like candi sugar notes. Well behind those flavors are thin layers of black licorice, chocolate and faint dark roasted malts. Nice stuff. A few years in the cellar will likely do this up real nice.

Bottle (2010). Pours with a small tan head covering a deep bronze body with red highlights. Aromas of strong, higher alcohols, leather, red currants, dark fruits. Vinous, brown sugar. Incredible amounts of alcohol in the nose. Flavors are equally hot: alcohol, currants, vinous with some sticky toffee notes. A bit of a stale malt character as well in the first couple of sips. Weighted mouthfeel with light bubbles. Warming and hot with a long duration. Good, but this needs a good while to mellow out.

22 oz. bottle, split with Matts_Property pours a dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma of caramel, overripe fruits, brown sugar, some floral hops, alcohol and sort of an off vegetal, absinthey quality - but not dominating. Flavour is quite rich and hot, with floral notes, licorice / absinthe notes, coconut, and dark candied fruits. Alcohol is well-concealed, though you know it's there. Might do with some aging, as some of the flavours don't mesh so well - still, quite enjoyable.
