On tap at Mikkeller Bar. A dark brown beer, almost black, and topped by a finger-thick, dense, light tan head. Roasted malts, some dried fruits, coffee and chocolate on the nose. The flavor is roasted and quite chocolatey, some dried fruits chime in, and there’s also a pleasant hoppy flavor. Semi-dry, full-bodied and smooth on the palate, and with a lasting finish with coffee, chocolate and a good bitterness. I’m quite used to beers needing quite a few sips to open up and show its potential. This one’s the opposite, after a few sips it gets sort of boring. But it’s still a nice beer. 120510

Sample at the brewpub. Blackish pour with a medium creamy light tan head that recedes slowly. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of roasted coffee and malt. Light bodied and smoove as advertized with flavors of roasted malt, coffee and a touch of grain. The finish is malty with a mildly bitter coffee aftertaste. Decent overall.

On tap @ Mikkeller bar. This is a near black one with a small and quickly sidesticking beige head. The aroma is milky-sweet with chocolate and some lactic coffee. Nice enough. A bit "thin" in the mouth and it has a average+ carbonation level. Flavors are light roasted with a clear milk chocolate flavor before it ends with something that reminds me of mineral water. A sweet good one. 10.05.2012

Black color, creamy head. Light aroma of roasted malt, paper, yeast. Smooth mouthfeel; chocolate flavor, dry; the bitterness derives from the roasted malts, it’s low. Simple.

On tap for a beer club party I had. I didn’t rate at the time, but I drank significant amounts of this, which resulted in a bad hangover and then I had to take a plane overseas. Perhaps because of that I don’t like what Ernst’s evil spell has done to me, but the beer itself is nothing short of great. Silky smooth body with lots of coffee, chocolate malt note with hints of oatmeal. It was so smooth tasting that when the beer was initially served too cold, I thought it would make a great breakfast beer. Lingering chocolately finish. Great stuff.
