Our Black Marlin Porter stands out in a town known primarily for its IPA’s. We craft it from a unique blend of roasted and crystallized malts that give it a smooth, chocolaty, caramel profile. Then toss in a healthy dose of American hops to serve up full-bodied flavor worthy of its San Diego roots.

Cask. Toffee and coffee aroma. Almost black colour, seems cloudy. Small frothy tan head. Perfumy coffee flavour, seems a little sour. Citric burn in the finish... wax? Strangely sour. Watery mouthfeel.

Keg at Brewdog Bar Aberdeen. It pours very dark brown, with a thin bubbly white head. The nose is coffee, leather, roasted malt, smoke, smoky bacon and toffee. The taste is coffee, salted liquorice, caramel, toffee, roasted malt and soy sauce. Thin to medium body and moderate carbonation. Well balanced, but a little too thin for my liking.

Bottle bought at GBBF 2011 and drunk at home on my last day of my summer holiday. Black beer with lasting tan head. Dark choc aroma with some of those PNW hops. Very smooth and creamy in the mouth with more darkish choc flavour and then some bitterness on the finish. It’s quite full in the mouth with that creamy feel which is pleasant. Lacks a touch of intensity maybe. Just a slight edge of something there that doesn’t quite sit right if I’m being real picky. Bit of cereal comes through, but the creamy choc on the swallow is very good.

22 oz. bottle. Nice deep brown color. Full, bubbly - off white head with lots lacing. Lively carbonation. Aroma is caramel, coffee, and chocolate. Has a sweet roasty taste with some chocolate and coffee notes. Also a very nice small amount of vanilla in a nice long roasty finish. The finish lingers makes me wanting more. Mouthfeel is a bit thin but doesn’t make it negative in anyway. I like this porter. Will buy again.

Bottle. Pours black with off white head. Nose of vanilla, anise, licorice and roast malt. Taste of licorice, sweet chocolate malt and light anise. Body is on lighter side of the porter spectrum.

Bomber at Paradiso Alexandria, shared with Collin and two dudes next to me. Dark maroon color, tan head. Aroma of milk chocolate and roasted coffee. Taste is smoke and dark roasted malts. Body is too light, though; with better body, this one might be a 4.0.
