Grape and Gourmet, VA Beach 650ml ($5.50): Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate and roasted malts. Body is perfect for a porter. Balance is excellent. Drinkability is through the roof. I must have drank this whole beer in a matter of 15 minutes, which is pretty fast for me. Constrained bitterness and mild sweetness compliment each other. Carbonation at the right level. Coffee and chocolate take their respective stands.

22 ounce bottle into pint glass, best by dating is unreadable. Pours slightly hazy dark reddish brown color with a nice 2 finger dense khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some decent lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, coffee, bread, nuttiness, light citrus, and herbal hops. Nice and very well balanced aromas with good strength. Taste of chocolate, caramel, biscuit, roasted malt, nuttiness, slight coffee, citrus, and herbal hops. Light coffee bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, nuttiness, biscuit, roasted malt, caramel, coffee, and herbal hops on the finish for a bit. Fairly robust flavor profile, with very nice balance of flavor. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and smooth mouthfeel. Alcohol is nicely hidden with hardly any warming on the finish noticed. Very easy to drink. Overall this is a damn nice and well balanced porter. I really have nothing to knock against it. Really enjoyable stuff.

Clear deep brown beer. Semi soft palate. Rich malt, silky. Very light smoke. Finishes smooth and a little dry. Decent if slightly one dimensional.

Bottle in AZ. Dark brown appearance with a moderately sized, brown head. Nutty, rich chocolate, light roasted coffee, a bit piney aroma. Somewhat roasty, chocolate malty, light nutty, a bit burnt coffee flavor.

0.65l bottle from BrewDog webshop. The great Marlin! It pours a deep deep brown - near black actually - body with a nice medium sized bubbly tan head that stick around for a while. Really nice ashy and roasted aromas with cocoa powder, lots and lots of thin chocolate and hints of both nuts and sweet dark dried fruits. Nice indeed! It has a average carbonation level and a slick quickly throat-gliding mouthfeel. Much the same flavors as the aroma; Volcano-ashy with lots of roasted chocolate malts before you get just a tiny hint of dark - almost acidic - dried berries in the finish. Enjoyable and really easy to drink. The bottle just disappeared right in front of me! Well, the content did anyways. Really nice! 17.01.2012

Bottle: Poured a dark black color porter with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light green hops with some light roasted malt notes is quite pleasant. Taste is an interesting mix between some green hops with light bitter notes and some roasted malt with light dry aftertaste. Body is quite full with light creamy notes and good carbonation. Nothing over the top in this beer though well brewed and easily drinkable.

65cl bottle courtesy of Joes. Pitch black color, average sized beige head. Smell roastyness, some coffee, hints of burned malts. Taste roasted malts, hints of smoke and burned malts, coffee. Medium carbo, medium to full body.

Aroma: The nose is fairly malty, with notes of chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, and a little bit of hops too

Flavor: The taste is fairly malty and roasted up-front (coffee, roast), and later there is a pretty hop presence
Palate: The body is medium-full, it has a rather smooth and drinkable feel to it, with a pretty soft carbonation
Overall Impression: This was a pretty solid brew. I thought it was pretty well-made, with a nice flavor and a good drinkability. I thought that there was a little bit more of a hop presence then I typically expect from this style, and I thought that it worked pretty well. A very nice Porter from Ballast Point.

Aroma - Dark chocolate, cocoa powder, roasted malt nicely blended with the chocolate, very slight alyer of citrus hop as a background nuance.
Taste - Luxury chocolate...dark rich malts..some roasted malts...very drinkable....citrus note...no alcohol...not complex but tastes really good.
Palate - Soft carb...smooth mouthfeel...medium body. Finish - chocolate malt and slight citrus hop with a pleasent lingering cocoa overhang.
Overall - Beautifully made porter. Great taste and aroma.
