Established in 1861 by Ralph Fremlin, Fremlin’s brewery expanded to become the largest in Kent. The iconic elephant trademark became synonymous with the brand's bottled ales.
Following the 1967 Whitbread takeover, brewing in Maidstone ceased, though Whitbread continued to market the product before phasing it out.
