Bottle at Chriso’ Blue Mountains of Virginia tasting. My notes say that MadMitch76 and I didn’t agree on this beer, but our scores aren’t a million miles apart. Very very deep ruby colour. Mostly choc and malt on aroma. Good in the body. Rather lovely

Bottle 12fl.oz. @ chrisos Back In The UK Tasting.Clear medium to dark brown color with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, fruity, spicy. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average duration, spicy. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20100522]

Bottle from ericandersnavy. Kudos on getting me another rare beer! Pours very dark brown (Sam Adams glass) with a clingy 4 finger frothy beige/tan head. Smells like a chocolate fruit bomb. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is like chocolate anise with some coffee and dark fruit. The bitter is like unsweetened cacao powder. It finishes dry and a little astringent. Quite a change from those sticky BPs. (not a gulf reference)

Courtesy of mreusch. 12oz bottle pours deep mahogany with semi loose one minute mocha head. The aroma is an even mix of malts, molasses, prunes, figs, brown sugar and chocolate. The taste is pretty rich and pleasing with malts, some roastiness, molasses, prunes, figs and dates. By midway a firm note of chocolate rises up along with some brown sugar to push this toward closure. The after taste sees lingering notes of chocolate, molasses and a mild level of dark fruitiness going on and on. Wow, love it.

A dark reddish brown porter with a thin off white head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate, with light wild herbs. In mouth, a light sweetish herbaceous chocolate with light Belgian notes. OK but not what I expected. Tasted at CNY brewfest, Feb. 6 2010.

Aroma: Nose of roasted malts, chocolate, some dark fruits (raisins), molasses, and some earth
Appearance: Pours a dark brown color with a slight red hue and a fizzy tan head
Flavor: Roasted malty flavors flow into a more bitter coffee/chocolate finish
Palate: The mouthfeel is a bit thin compared to my expectations and somewhat metallic, mild ABV burn
Overall Impression: This is an alright beer, it gets better as it warms, but I just don't love the way the flavor flows. It isn't the best thing from this style, but it isn't bad. I'm enjoying the Leviathan beers from Harpoon, but this wasn't my favorite one.

12 oz bottle. Deep, deep brown with a light tan head. Creamy aroma with chocolate, caramel, maybe some malted milk balls. Yes, I think malted milk balls is the aroma I’m getting. Also some raisin. Flavor has coffee and cocoa backed by an undercurrent of caramel and some hints of raisin. Finishes with what I’d describe as a peanut butter flavor. This is quite a nice beer with an unexpected level of complexity.

12oz bottle pours a dark, although translucent, black with ruby hues and a thin, creamy slightly off white head. Aroma is coffee, nuts, malts, toast, a little licorice. Flavor is sweet, malty, chewy bread, coffee, nuts, licorice, molasses. Full bodied, sweet finish. Good winter brew.
