Wheat beer has always been known as an elixir or tonic; especially when unfiltered with the brewer’s yeast still in the bottle. Organic Wheat Beer is golden, fruity – the naturally occurring fruit esters from the yeast give prominent citrus and banana flavours – and thirst quenching.

Pint yellow-orange pour with firm white head. High carbonisation. Aromas of fruits (banana) and yeast. All the flavours of a wheat beer are there (orane zest, banana, cloves, white bread) - very nice.

550ml bottle from Mitchells Wines, Meadowhead - Hazy golden body, rocky white top. Nose has delicate banana and clove wheaty notes. Taste is crisp with the sharp wheat bites at the front, yeasty end. Clean and fresh.

Two bottles at the Rising Sun in Smithfield. Mine poured perfectly with an appealing cloudiness and quite a good head. My companion's fizzed like a coke and didn't look right, but he claimed it was perfect. A spicy bite and very thirst quenching mouthfeel made this welcome. We followed the advice on the bottle for the second and included a slice of lemon. It really changed the flavour profile and smoothed the mouthfeel quite significantly. I have to say it enhanced the beer.

Keg at The Chandos, near Lesta Sq. Realised I hadn’t been in a Sam Smith’s pub for around 15 months and thus no ticks on here. Sour yeasty aroma with herb edge. A hazy gold. Thick creamy head. Really quite sweet for the style - reminds me of those penny sweet foamy bananas or Nesquik. A citric sour edge. Light bodied. Watery. Muted carbonation. Long finish. Perhaps not a great example of a hefe but in my virginal beer days when all I’d had was Erdinger it was cool to find this stuff on cheap. And I still love it.
