Brewing this very special, bold beer begins with a complicated mash which includes German Munich malts, lots of caramel malts, a smaller portion of highly roasted grain and even malted wheat. This grain bill creates a big beer with a deep red color and all the rich maltiness you expect with a touch of sweetness. We balance this with a strong hop backbone from some unique hop varieties which contribute plenty of flavors and aromas of their own. The result is a pint glass bursting with character.

Bottle. Poured almost purple with thin fast dissipating white head. Aroma of citrus and caramel and raisins. Sweet raisiny flavour with a citrus and alcohol note. Alcohol finish. Not reallly bad, but not a winner either

12 oz Bottle from My son! Thanks Chris (Enniskillen)! Nose of vanilla, sweetness, caramel, and a lightter more tropical fruitiness than most BWs; cherry brown with a small beige head; flavor has some piney hop bitterness, caramel, and some dark fruits with a bitter finish. I would love to have a sixer of this to age for a few! Might be great in 3 or 4 years!

Bottle: Darker in amber color with a moderate beige head. Nose is malty, fruity, hints of citrus hops, and alcohol notes. Taste is initially muted, then comes through with lots of malt and a hint of the alcohol content in the finish. A hint of fruitiness. Smooth and creamy mouthful. Not bad, in fact, better than average.

Hazy amber color, small off-white head. Strong APA/IPA-like American hoppy aroma (grapefruit, pine needles). Quite hoppy barley wine, fruity ... malts and some yeast in the background. Does not feel like 10% or barley wine , more like an IPA.

Bottled (thanks kenb!). Hazy dark amber colour with small off-white head. Aroma is malts, alcohol and American hops. Flavour is very wineous, but has a huge hayish hoppy dry finish.

12/02/06 Walk the Line Barleywine Festival, Dunedin, FL. 2003 vintage. Kind of a murky brown color with hints of a red hue around the edges. There seem to be no head. The aroma was mostly sweet with dark fruit and a hint of vinegar. The flavor had a sense of sweet red wine grapes along with a slight vinegar note. To help mask the vinegar was a decent amount of pine hops. All and all pretty smooth.

Dark amber colour. Slight toffee aroma with hints of soft, light, chewy caramel. There’s a bit of brown sugar to round things off. Quite sweet and without enough complexity to keep me interested.
