Lobotomy Bock pours a dark reddish brown with a quickly dissipating head, nothing to complain about. The smell is a different story. The aroma is sweet, thin and hoppy with a slight twinge of alcohol. It’s bad news but an accurate announcement of the coming experience. Much like the aroma, the taste is thin and sweet with some nuttiness and malt, which is almost nice. The best notes are upfront, giving way to a watery finish. At 5-6% abv, this beer would have received higher marks. As a Doppelbock and at a reported 10.8% abv (a dirty, dirty lie), this beer is entirely too sweet and seriously lacking body. In addition, the carbonation is quite weak and the sweetness makes my cheeks cringe a bit. I had trouble finishing it. Thin, sweet and under-carbonated.

12 oz bottle from Country Club Liquors! Nose of caramel, some faint smoke, banana, and spices. Clear dark brown with a small beige head that laces lightly. Flavor is peppery spices, caramel, and a little background bitterness.

Bottle. I hate Indian Wells beer, and I am shocked that this crap came to Texas. Pours with a small, tan head that fades over a dark brown body. Aroma of light banana esters, dark fruits, alcohol and plastic. Taste is alcohol, light malt and plastic...Not much else. Light bubbles and a dry mouthfeel for the ABV. I highly doubt the claimed ABV of this beer.

Bottle. Pours a dark ruby color with a small frothy off white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is a sweet fruity malt with raisin and caramel. Decent spotty lacing on the glass. The taste is similar to the aroma with brown sugar and raisin. Easy to drink while hiding the alcohol very well. A very good doppelbock from Indian Wells.

Thanks to goldtwins for sharing - holy hell, this is one of the most bland 10+% beers I’ve ever had - sure, it’s smooth and drinkable, and I guess it should get credit for masking the alcohol, but come on - some raisin and nuts - creamy mouthfeel - a bit of date on the back - fairly thin for the strength - a little bit of burnt malt - meh.

bottle - Pours deep amber with a big, fluffy white, long-lasting head. The aroma is mainly of sweet malt with a touch of fruit. The flavor is sweet malt and dark fruit in a nice combination. How they managed to make a big beer come out watery, I don’t know, but unfortunately they did. That’s the main drawback here. Otherwise it’s pretty tasty.

Bottle. Dark mahogany color with a fizzy tan head that didn’t last long. Aroma of mild dark fruit and roasted caramel. Biting, fizzy carbonation. Body starts medium but thins. Flavor is mostly darkly roasted caramel, but there seems to be lighter fruit notes as well. Finishes surprisingly dry. It’s not dry, dry, but it sure is not sticky. Leaves an impression of soil in the mouth - not necessarily a bad thing. The heat was not really noticeable until it was pretty well down the gullet. Certainly easy to quaff. Danger, Will Robinson.

Bottle from Park Lane Liquor in Lancaster, CA. Pours dark brown with a reddish hue around the edges. Thin beige head that has decent retention, and spotty lacing. Medium (bordering thin sometimes) body with a smooth texture. Sweet roasted malt flavor with very light coffee and hops behind it. The finish is smooth and sweet with a hint of dark fruit and hops aftertaste. There is no way I would believe this beer is pushing 11%. Overall it is on the bland side.
