Single Digit Dubbel

Bottle. Pours brown with lots of bubbles. Malty, grassy aroma. Decent lacing from a nearly nonexistent head, Crisp, clean malty taste.

This was a nice beer. Aroma has brown sugar and malt. Dark brown color and light carbonation. Sweet fruit flavor and a roasted character, but lacks the fruit character found in the best dubbels.

A brown ale with a thin lacing off white head. A lightly medicinal aroma, with sweet malts, and notes of ginger. In mouth, a sweet malt with funkey ginger, cloying, and light metallic notes. Medium bodied. Tap at 11th Annual CNY Brewfest, Feb.5 2007.

Bottle. Cloudy amber. Malt with yeast and fruit aromas. Nice malt flavor, with some hop bitterness. A pretty decent winter warmer, and an overall good beer to drink when it’s chilly outside.

Bottle. Yeasty fruit bread aroma - notes of apple, orange and banana. Amber with yellowish head. Sweet orange juice flavor with pine/grapefruit hops finish. Nice piney aftertaste - good and very different.

Bottle; Nose of caramel, spice and a little raisins; slightly hazed cherry amber with a big but fast disappearing tan head; flavor had some spice, pepperiness, and malt, with a little hop bitterness in the finish. Is this a real dubbel?

Pours deep amber into a snifter. Head quickly subsides to skim surface. Warm raisin and plum aromas. Lightly carbonated with spicy smoked nutmeg and lasting bitter finish.

Bottled. Clear ruby. Raisiny malt aroma. Sweet and very aromatic with clean mouthfeel some light grassy hops. Rich Belgian style yeast almondy yeast character. Salty finish. Flavourwise it is very good, but it lacks in malt depth.

2005, best before March 06 bottle consumed on 1/18/06. The liquid decants a very clear amber-beige, with some copper and gold hints and a strong ruddy undertone. Fairly large bubbles rise lazily creating a moderate amount of beige-yellow, bubbly head that has VERY poor retention and provides no lacing. Crystal clear, even towards the end of the bottle, with no sediment. Seems bottle conditioned, very lightly so, with a really heavy filtration. The aroma boasts of banana weizeny esters, sugarplums, light dates and simple sugars. Slightest touch of clove, but it’s mainly bananas here. Strength is medium. The flavor begins with an mildly acidic/sour yeastiness, candi-sugar like stickiness (caramelized, dry sugars) and plenty of mushy banana flavors. Light hop apparency is mildly spicy, lightly bitter, quite herbal, while the bananas again dominate and are joined by a bit of bubble gum and clove. Finishes very simple, a round caramel sweetness, light hoppiness lingering. Bordeing near cloying levels of sweetness, mostly due to the lack of complexity. Low carbonation, but not tight at all, leading to a watery feel. Heavily thinned out texture, terribly so on the end, and the filtration allows for light, high alcohol notes to appear in both the nose and flavor.
