This is the big, hearty ’red wine’ of our range. Nine malts are blended to produce layers of caramel, coffee, liquorice, chocolate and roasty flavours and these are balanced by a tart, raisiny fruitiness that gradually gives way to a lingering dry finish. Rich, full bodied. warming and moreish. Stonecutter pairs well with venison, roast beef or lamb, or the heartiest casseroles and stews. For dessert try with a creme brulee or, of course, Scottish shortbread.

Bottle shared with Yanick. Pours caramel brown. Nose/taste of vanilla, caramel, orange peel and malt. Dryish malty finish. Medium body.

Huge beige head. Deep dark red body with strong carbonation. Strong malty caramelly aroma with fruity earthy spice notes. Dry-sweet malty caramelly earthy taste with wooden spice notes. Mid-bodied. Soft, smooth mouthfeel. Dryish spicy minty earthy aftertaste with caramel and toffee notes. Very nice and highly drinkable. (0.5l bottle, Ølbutikken, Copenhagen.)

Bottle. Pours a clear amber color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty caramel aroma with yeasty hints. Roasted malty yeasty spicy caramel flavor. Has a roasted malty caramel finish.

Bottle from Wine and Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours very dark amber with a creamy light coffee head. Aroma of sweetish malt with perhaps a touch of peat. Near full bodied. Flavors are anise, toffee, chocolate and a lot of roast malt. Don’t think there’s smoke though. Finishes on the sweet side, but not sticky. Fairly complicated stuff.

bottle from ølbutikken clear dark amber, smooth yellow head. dark caramelly, nutty, slightly roasted aroma, quite delicate and rather complex. no hint of the high ABV in the aroma. dry flowery hoppy note to balance, but not so much you actually notice it unless you look for it. flavor is sweet sugary, sweet malty, rather dry, nutty, dark bitter malty, caramelly. It’s like several different malty tastes are in play. Imagne a well behaved cross between a brown ale and a barley wine us style, but with much more moderate hopping. Quite tasty.

Bottle. Creamy off-white good mostly lasting head. Dark red amber colour. Moderate malty and light hopy aroma. Dark fruit notes. MOderate bitter nice caramellic flavor. Average finish. Oily palate. NIce.

Bottle. Dark brown with a lacy beige head. Big complex malt and vanilla aroma is quite Speyside whisky-like with pears and alcohol quite prominent. A hint of peat. Rich, smooth mouthfeel with boozy hotness. Taste has dark toffee, raisins, vanilla essence. Spicy bitter finish is warming and the finish seems drier as you drink. Don’t agree at all that the alcohol is well-hidden.
