(On tap @ the brewpub, Toronto, Dec 31/23) Pours black with a thin beige head and no lace. Moderately sweet up front, mostly dark caramel and roasted malt with some chocolate and coffee, moderate apple quality from the barrel, wood present from mid-sip, drying substantially in the finish with quite some alcohol warmth, moderate apple brandy, burnt coffee, toast, light char, moderate plus bitterness into the aftertaste. Rather light-bodied for style, below average carbonation. Solid, but for me the base beer is rather lacking in heft and complexity, a bit over-bitter for its body, and the barrel adds interest but could be stronger.
