(On tap @ the brewery, April 22/23) Pours very dark brown with a dense medium tan nitro cap. Aroma is super coffee-forward as expected, and the coffee is on the fruity side with berries, dark pit fruit, flowers, and some almost funky earthy tones from the anaerobic fermentation - this is joined by light to moderately roasted malts giving lightly sweetened chocolate, toast and more earthiness, nice presence of maple but it's not overpowering. Flavour is moderately sweet at best despite the maple and lactose, and again very centered on fruity, earthy, slightly funky and floral coffee framed by a moderate roast body giving chocolate, dark bread and toast without much acidity, maple is there but more for flavour than sugar. Finish is long, coffee-forward, earthy, a bit floral, vanilla tones, and the nice accent of maple lingers into the aftertaste. Medium-bodied, quite creamy from the nitro. I get why this isn't everyone's cup of coffee since it's, well, very coffee-foward and certainly not heavy pastry. As a coffee lover it worked very well for me.
