(473ml can from the BG18e brewpub) Pours murky very dark brown with a tiny pale tan head and no lace. Aroma of heavy roast coffee beans, very earthy and with a little green bell pepper tone, underlying cacao and semisweet chocolate maltiness. Flavour is rather dry with a lot of that same earthy rather bitter coffee bean vibe up front, some cacao nibs and again a little semi-sweet chocolate, light torrified sugars and a fair bit of burnt nutty almost spicy grain, quite dry from mid-sip on. Finish is all earthy dusty coffee grounds, unsweetened cacao nibs and dusty ashy burnt grain with a tick of brown sugar. Light slick-to-watery body, fairly soft carbonation. The chocolate version was superior for me, this seems thinner and drier with the coffee a touch too 'raw' for me.
