As the story goes, I was redesigning our I.P.A. to be bigger and better but as it came together it started to take on a life of its own. After much deliberation and several pints of our new creation we decided to name him after the master of macabre, Edgar Allen Poe, as a tribute to his aptly named short story \HOP FROG.\" As Edgar fermented and spewed his almost abusive hop aroma throughout the pub.

Taster at Bullfrog. Cloudy orange golden, spotty head with ring. Citrusy, resiny aroma, hop oil. Taste starts with a big hoppy bite, grabs you by the tonsils. Some notes of citrus appear, a long with pine. A real hop bomb.

On tap at the Backyard Alehouse in Scranton. It pours a clear golden color with a creamy off white head. The aroma is lightly floral with a little peach and grapefruit. The flavor is huge citrus and herbal bitterness. A little peach and grapefruit too. Medium bodied with a little caramel/honeyed malt. The strong herbal/piney bitterness isn’t really my favorite, but otherwise this was ok.

Tap bocktown. Slight aroma of BO. Clear pale. Bitter ipa from the start. It impacts like a roto tiller across yer taste buds, ruins you for the night. Difficult bitter medicine. Perhaps a little viscous. This stuff is quite smooth on the up take then it kicks you in the jaw, wew. What else can be said, terribly on style. I don’t care for it but you’ll like it if yer into IPA.

Growler thanks to Brian! Pours a a clear orangish amber with a white head that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces. Aroma has a combination of grass and sweet virus with a bread backbone. Flavor has lots of sweet citrus backed by earthy grains and a bit of bread.

New England Bucket List Trip #207. Keg at the brewpub. Pours a hazy orange with a medium sized creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of tropical, citrus hops and toffee malt. The taste is toffee malt, piney, earthy, citrus hops and some green olive notes. Medium bodied, mild lingering bitterness.
