22oz. pours copper, beige head. aroma and flavor, dark malts and caramel, plenty of dark fruits with some hops in the background. Overall profile keeps a good malty approach with a smooth palate that ends with hints of hops bitterness.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Greens Discount Beverage - Atlanta (Buford Hwy), 7/13/09

Aroma: Sweet nose, bread, toasted, some dark fruits, pretty nice mix of smells
Appearance: Caramel/orange color, minimal head
Flavor: Tasty and sweet, nice amount of spice, toasty, solid brew
Palate: Smooth and drinkable, a nice amount of body, minimal alcohol kick for a scotch
Overall Impression: A nice scotch, not the typical scotch, but enjoyable. I little too sweet maybe, but it's a nice sweetness, so I really enjoyed it.

More of a scottish ale than a scotch ale - hazy amber - soapy lace - the nose is nutty and doughy, with some earthy characteristics, leafy character - the flavor is of semi-bitter herbs and spices up front - moderate sweetness, nutty flavors, a hint of peat, tobacco, gingerbread - there is a tiny bit of tartness and leathery character on the back end that tastes like the onset of an infection (but one of those awesome infections that makes the beer delicious and better than it was) - a tiny bit of acidity on the back amplifies this character - a bit buttery - tastes like a decent recipe, bottled with poor quality control.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a small, off-white head over a deep brown body. Aroma of caramel, light peat, smoke, nutmeg and a bad combination of spices. Taste is smoke, peat, caramel and light fruits. Very light carbonation.

thanks to Rogueone for sharing a bottle. The beer is a dark brownish-amber color with a medium foamy light beige head that diminishes slowly. Thin sheet of lacing on the glass. Sweet nutty and malty aroma. Medium, smooth body with flavors of caramel and malt along with touches of nuts and hops. The finish is sweet and malty with a light hoppy aftertaste. Above average overall, although this is more along the lines of what I would tend to think the "Heavy" would be like, rather than the "Heavy-er".

22 ounce bottle from Sam’s in Durham. The following is my review from cvillebeergeek.blogspot.com

Appearance: This pours a slightly hazy reddish-tinted brown color with almost no head. What head is there sticks around atop the beer and leaves tiny specks of lacing. 3.5/5.0

Aroma: Not surprisingly, there are strong caramel notes in the aroma. There also also some fruity notes, including apple, peach and coconut. Certainly very interesting. 4.0/5.0

Taste: Primarily toasted grains, with some of the same fruity notes and a slight hint of peated malts that give the beer a nutty vibe. Bitter finish. 3.5/5.0

Mouthfeel: This beer is medium bodied and has fairly vigorous carbonation. Otherwise a smooth feel. 3.5/5.0

Drinkability: This is a 22 ounce bottle at a well-hidden 7% abv, so take appropriate caution. Perhaps not the closest adherence to style guidelines, but still a very tasty brew. 4.0/5.0

Overall: French Broad is not distributed yet in Virginia, but is fairly readily available in North Carolina. This bottle came from Sam’s Quik Shop in Durham. If you ever come across their beers, definitely try them out. I’ve never been disappointed. This one is a fairly straightforward, pleasant beer. 3.45/5.0

Big thanks to jayg for bringing this growler. Pours deep copper with off white head. With the aroma I get roasted malts and a mustiness that seems to try to be peaty, nuttiness and faint alcohol. Smooth tasting with roasted malts, nuttiness and caramelized malts. Toward the finish a peatiness surfaces. The flavors go together pretty well. Yep, the peat/earthiness peaks up just a bit into the finish making it only just noticeable.
