At Kasteel Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck we mature our Kasteel Tripel in recycled cognac barrels. This beer style is called ‘Barrel Aged’, aging beer in recycled barrels. Our brewer fills previously used cognac barrels with Kasteel Tripel to ensure that the beer retains the taste of cognac without losing its own identity. The Trignac is a full-mouthed degustation beer and appeals to anyone who loves beer and cognac!

Bottle, 75cl corked. An almost clear one, golden in color and with a dense, off-white head that lasts and leaves lacings. It’s malty and sweetish on the nose, with alcohol, dried fruits and some resiny hops. The flavor is quite sweet, with pale malts, white sugar, dried apricots and some bitterness. Full body and a soft carbonation, quite high level though. Lasting sugary and bitter finish with a herbal touch. Too warming this one, but far from bad. 140830

Bottled 750ml. -from Svijet Piva Zagreb. Bottle No 23480, vintage 2013.
Slight cloudy golden coloured, medium to big sized creamy white head that went away slowly, mild spicy alcoholic nose. Fizzy as hell. Moderate malty, slight yeasty, spicy and quite alcoholic with some odd cheesy notes. Discreet touch of cognac barrel. Alcohol and spices in the finish. High carbonation. Pretty average and a way too expensive (36US$) for what it is. In general waste of money so if you don’t have any real need for this AVOID IT!!!

From a 75 cl bottle shared at Ryan’s. Pours a clear gold with a white head. Banana nose. Flavors of banana lacquer and caramel. Effervescent. Pleasant but not worth the $35 price tag.

Bottle (#6561/9000!!!) shared by Ken.It pours hazy golden yellow with a thick fluffy white head. The nose is pear, melon, apple, icing sugar, wood, faint barnyard, marshmallow, honey and cognac. The taste is lightly tart, alcohol warmth, straw, hay, sour green apple, pear, dough, wood, honey and a touch of cognac. Medium+body, moderate carbonation and velvety mouth-feel. Nice light tartness to it. Actually I thought this was pretty decent stuff.

Craft Clerkenwell Tasting. Hazy gold bee, little white head. Palate is light and pretty dry. Fine carbonation. Fine dry malt. Very light touch of cognac. Little yeasty bitterness. Dry finish. Disappointing! But then I’m not a fan of the Kasteels. Yeasty dry and the cognac is bordering on wimpy.
