Dark amber color; generous creamy head. Some malt and spicy aroma, but anticipates a sourness. And the taste doesn’t refute: ordinary Schwarz with a sour touch. Average.

2002 version, bottled: Dark amber and hazy with rich creamy head. Soapy flowery. Rather light body and only a slight hint of the acidity caused by infection that has plagued this brewery for so long. Salty finish with decent bitterness and a hint of shampoo.
This is difficult to rate as it has varied so much over time in quality. When it first came out, it was dark, hazy, earthy, malty, complex and roasty, but not as sweet as many other Christmas lagers. The later batches has been thin, acidic and probably infected.
Earliest batches: 7/4/8/3/15
2001 version: 1/3/2/2/4

There's quite some flavours fighting for attention in this one: juniper, liquorice, tar , plum-stone bitterness.......
