Malty and hoppy, we at Belhaven love the classic Scottish Ale and we’ve been brewing it longer than any of the other beers we produce. Delivering a sweet, smooth and creamy finish, Scottish Ale has a stunning ruby colour in the glass. Magic.

Pours a transparent dark amber. Forms very little head, even with quite hard pouring, and it dissipates very quickly. Decent malt complexity in the aroma, with prominent nutty notes followed by caramel, toffee and a hint of coffee; a hint of spiciness and a hint of fruitiness (can't pick up anything specific). Taste notes follow the aroma quite closely (no roasted/coffee notes), lacking in both intensity and definition. Quite light bodied with light to medium but slightly coarse carbonation, giving the beer a light dryish feel that takes a bit away from roundness. Very easy drinker though. So so

Bottle from a shop in Leipzig. Medium Brown, small head, biscuit caramel nose. Lightly sweet malt flavor, nutty with marsh-reminiscent bitterness & aftertaste, not overly sweet. Pretty decent.

Pour is a clear amber with a large tan head. Aroma is some old earthy malt. Flavor is a nice toasted malt with a little treacle. It is a bit thin but a decent english maltiness.

Bottle from Bryan. Clear clear off pale color, but not as dark as iced tea, more light orange brown. Creamy head. Nose of malt. Taste is just a little rude up front but I think I'm getting used to it. Has a little of a whisky attitude about it. Good level of CO2. Some difficult non-hop bitterness settling in the back of the throat. Yes, typical old style old country scottish with an attitude towards scotch ale feel. Goes down fairly easy, but probably would not buy a sixer of these. Good fior a tick, thanks Briney.
