American style strong ale from a Spanish craft brewery (in Galicia) I hadn’t heard of before, bottle from Plan B. Quite a lot of pressure on this bottle upon opening, but no gusher. Frothy, medium thick, egg-white, densely moussy head leaving behind a rim of thick membranous lacing and crowning a hazy reddish vermillion coloured, coppery beer. Aroma of blood orange, mandarin flesh, fresh lime and mango juice, biscuit, sharp and oily orange peel zest, freshly cut red apples and a lot of it, Grand Marnier, hazelnut oil, strawberry wine, lots of citrus-scented soap, freshly cut red apples, honey liqueur, hints of dry earth, raw pineapple, green banana and almond. Vividly fruity onset, peach, guava and dried banana sweetness paired with an underlying redcurrant acidic touch, strong citrusy ’fraîcheur’, minerally and somewhat overstated carbonation, establishing a rather coarse, but ’filling’ body. Biscuity and nutty malt bittersweetness in the middle, notably soapy too, while this fruit sour-and-sweetness persists, bready as well due to yeast remnants, very soapy as well, leading to a drying finish of very - lively - grapefruity, spicy hop bitterness laying a dry and resinous coating on the tongue and producing some very pleasant pink pepper, grapefruit juice and (more vaguely) tropical floral notes, with - again - bitter citrus prevailing; quite a lot of (toasty) breadiness goes down alongside nutty bitterish malts, hop bitterness and an afterglow of warming, orange liqueur- or even calvados-like alcohol. Clean (though perhaps a tad too soapy), to the point and technically more than correct: this is a convincing beer with a lot of personality hidden inside. Thoroughly citrusy, very orange and grapefruit-zest like, in a fresh, lively manner - in fact, the biscuity maltiness could have been more thick, sweet, robust and outspoken to my taste, especially seen the intent of the brewer, aiming at something along the lines of Stone’s Arrogant Bastard, AleSmith’s My Bloody Valentine or Black Diamond’s Fracas. In that particular sense, this falls short of rotund, malty goodness, but who can blame it for being so intensely grapefruity - in the most juicy, refreshing and vivid manner imaginable. Viewed that way, this is much more a red IPA than an ’American strong ale’ - whatever the latter means. I need to get to know this brewery better with a certain amount of urgency...

Red brown colour with lasting head. Aroma and flavour have quite a lot of strong, resinous hop. There’s also a slight woody, funky, sharp edge to it.

Bottle shared by Joes. Dark amber color, average sized off-white head. Smell and taste malts, hops, hop bitter and some caramalt bitter. Decent body and carbonation.

Light brown color with an off-white head with short duration. Aroma has hoppy notes with light caramelish hints. Flavor is mild bitterness, some fruitness mainly orange peel. Bittery and dry final.
