This is an incredibly intriguing ale is made by aging our Old Heathen Imperial Stout in oak barrels that were used for making fine Kentucky bourbon! The result is an extraordinary, dark, and mysterious stout whose very essence has been enhanced. The aroma is filled with vanilla, cocoa, and roasted coffee beans. This silky-smooth brew has notes of oak, whiskey, roasted barley and vanilla that meld together on the tongue to create an incredible sensation. Heresy is released in February.

bottle. Pours dark with a tannish head. Aroma is somewhat alcoholish, as is the taste. An unpopular opinion but i think the alcohol may overpower the rest (which is chocolate, malt, etc)

2005 vintage from trade. I traded for a bunch of Weyerbachers long time ago, and this is the first one I've opened in a long time. It's to make up for being required to spend time with my family instead of going to FoBAB 2019. The 2005 label only mentions oak barrel aging, but right under the cap is a big snootful of bourbon and vanillin. Plenty of carbonation in this one. In fact the tan foam stays pretty stiff until my lips touch it. Solid black beer color beneath it. After 14 years, the taste is still quite nice. Plenty of roasty malt, a bit of cherry cola taste, backed by coffee and molasses. Yes, there's still some sweetness to it, but the malt tells it to keep its mouth shut. Nothing here has gone off. Just a fine imperial stout that's picked up a good load of bourbon barrel taste and has not let go over all this time.

Nice light brown creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is mild and slightly sweet sour-ish, dark sugar, dark malts, oak, chocolate, caramel, vanilla, grass, mild bourbon. Taste is very mild, dark malts, caramel, chocolate pudding, vanilla, grass, coffee, oak, hay, dark sugar, mild bourbon, cocoa. Medium bitterness, very mild velvety mouthfeel. Nice and extremely easy drinking for the ABV.

Pour is a complete black with a small tan head. Aroma is a nice roasted/chared malt with a barely there barrel. The barrel becomes more apparent as this warms. Flavor is is a decent roasted malt, plenty of vanilla and a minor oak. Much like the aroma the oak shows itself more as this gets up to room temperature. This was a solid offering.

This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a slim finger’s worth of tan to off white foamy head that dissipated within less than about forty seconds. Slim clingy slightly foamy lacing roams around the glass nicely.
The smell starts with rich dark fruits with a good amount of rich sweet milk chocolate and bitter dark chocolate. All three meld really nice. A dry sweet semi-chocolatey aftertaste runs into the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sipping quality about it. Carbonation comes across really nice and low. The dryness hits my tongue the hardest but not overbearing.
Overall, this was a pretty good Russian Imperial Stout but not a lot of whiskey barrel shows up. Maybe it was my timing but I wouldn’t mind trying again fresher.
