Heavy Weizen explores the inner depths of creativity and craftsmanship, taking a style of ale that is delicate and quaffable and shaping it into something exuberant and sturdy.
The foundation of Heavy Weizen begins with prodigious quantities of North American malted barley and wheat. Next, the finest European hops are added to complement this ale’s unique disposition by giving spicy aromas. Its spirit is forged during fermentation where our Bavarian weizen yeast consumes sugars and creates divine flavors reminiscent of bananas and cloves. Then, by aging this ale, we allow the divergent characteristics to blend together, becoming one. To capture Heavy Weizen’s spirit, this wheat ale remains unfiltered to leave some of the yeast in the bottle. Serving this ale with a wedge of lemon is recommended, but optional.
18 plato, 38 IBUs, 2-row pale malt, malted white wheat, hallertau magnum, saaz.

Balanced aroma of oranges, pineapple, and caramel with traces of baby food and clove. Cloudy golden, no head. Medium to full body. It tastes very much of caramel ringed with sour fruits, lemon and currant. Bitter grass and grapefruit finish. Decent complexity and balance. Distinct transitions from sweet (almost syrupy) to sour to bitter. Fairly well done with no off flavors, but something is amiss. I think maybe the initial sweetness overshadows everything else.

bottle - Pours cloudy straw colored with a very thin head. The aroma is yeasty with some citrus. It’s a sweet, light flavored, citrusy beer with a kick at 8% abv. There’s just a touch of alcohol in the flavor. It’s medium bodied and overall fairly enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy amberish orange with a big head. Aromas are thick with cloves and sweetness... candi sugar and pears and oranges. Flavor i s fairly sweet... focus is mainly fruit and sugar with a noticeable alcohol presence. This is good stuff...

Bottle on 10/18/2008. Cloudy orange body with a medium frothy white head. Sweet clove aroma with light banana notes. Very sweet sugar and clove flavor, more banana, a bit of spice, and a bit of caramel in the background. Medium body with moderately high carbonation and a warming finish.

Bottle thanks to RCL (and I think ilovedarkbeer also picked one up for me). Pours with a very large, creamy, tinged off-white head that leaves strong lacing and retention. Murky, vibrant yellow hued body. Aroma is easily saaz hops, with a slightly spicy (both hops and yeast) note and a touch of lemon citrus with banana, clove and alcohol. Taste is bitter and hoppy with creamy banana and vanilla in the finish with wheat notes. Imperial in a similar way to NG’s Unplugged Weizen. This seems less in your face citrus hop though. A bit too fizzy for me with a straight forward alcohol tone that is not the best characteristic for a hefe or light/fruity estered wheat ale.

Bottle: Poured a medium orange color weizen with a nice large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consist of medium sweet wheat malt with some notes of cloves and banana ester. Taste is a mix between some dominating wheat malt with distinctive notes of cloves. Full body with limited filtration and great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very heavy but very well balance at the same time and easily drinkable. Well done!

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy yellow-golden color with a large fluffy white head. The aroma was sweet citrus, clove and yeastiness. The flavor was robust yeasty and malty with notes of citrus, clove, sugar and a touch of bubblegum. The finish was long, sweet and yeasty. The body was thick and full.

Thanks to decaturstevo for bringing this one back on his NY trip. Pours a fairly clear gold color with a tall, sticky, long lasting white head. Sweet lemony aroma over a sweet malt base. Just a touch of alcohol comes through. Sweet balance with some banana and the alcohol that was hinted to in the aroma. Nice wheat bite in the finish.

Courtesy of fishingnet. Pours hazy deep gold with wafer thin white head. The aroma is full of bold wheat notes backed by some honey like notes, a bit of grain malts and some faint cherry notes. The taste is much the same with bold wheat and then coriander like spices followed by some fruity esters. Midway I get mostly wheat. Nice. It pretty much ends as it started, darn tasty.

22oz bomber bottle. Thick, cloudy golden color. Pleasant aroma of banana and alcohol laced malt. A real merging of the banana hefe-yeast and deep, strong malt characteristics. Creamy and yeasty, with an aftertaste of sweet alcohol richness. I found the beer to be a little fresher tasting on draft, big surprise. An interesting beer but not quite world class territory.
