Imperial Pelican Ale is a classic Pacific Northwest IPA. We’re not exactly objective, but we consider this beer to be among the top tier of craft brews – and it’s won enough medals to prove it! Imperial Pelican is one of our first core beer styles (originally named “India Pelican Ale”) and we think of it as part of our own heritage in a bottle. Huge Cascade hop aroma, subtle malty sweetness, and a spicy, citrusy flavor; this ale is all that a Northwest Imperial Pale Ale should be.

22 oz. bottle, pours a clear golden / copper with a medium off-white head. Aroma of big juicy fruity hops, resin, and a big caramel malt backbone. Flavour brings out big juicy resinous hops, a bit of floral hops, and a bit juicy caramel malt. Very well-balanced, though perhaps maybe a bit too much residual sugar. Finishes quite astringency and fairly juicy. Good stuff, but I prefer the regular India Pelican Ale.

Bottle - Heavy citrus hops on the nose. Cloudy orange with a small dissipating head. Very pronounced hops and a bubble gum sweetness. Also get a bit of soap. Long bitter finish.

22 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours fairly crystal clear golden amber color with a nice 2-3 finger dense off white head with fantastic retention; that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Some nice spotty lacing on the glass; with a good amount of carbonation streaming up. Aromas of big orange, grapefruit, lemon zest, grass, herbal, pine, floral, bread, honey, and light caramel. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity. Taste of big grapefruit, orange, lemon zest, pine, grass, herbal, bread, floral, honey, light caramel, and citrus rind. Good amount of bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, orange, pine, herbal, grass, and citrus rind on the finish for a while. Fantastic hop flavor balance and complexity; with a nice malt balance as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and very crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is completely hidden, with no warming noticed at all in the taste or finish. Overall this is an outstanding IPA. Great balance of hop flavor; and extremely crisp and easy to drink. Fantastic stuff.

22oz bomber pours clear deep copper with half inch tall off white head and leaving behind some spotty lacing. The aroma offers up malt sweetened grapefruit and tropical mango fruitiness as well as a bit of spicy hops. The taste is rich and yummy with tropical mango fruit and spicy dank hoppy notes flowing into some citrus notes like grapefruit and orange peel. This has pleasing bitter hop forward balance with wedges of hop flavor and malty sweetness. Solid chewy rich IPA. I could get used to drinking this all the time.

Small off-white head over clear metallic-orange beer. Rosewater & passionfruit, C-hops’ nose, very nice if unidimensional, citruscharacter. Bitterorange zeste, orange marmalade, copperflavour. Less sweet than the nose suggested, but the aftertaste reverts to dull-sweet. Medium bodied, very slick. More than OK, nice, citrussy IPA.

Bomber. Pours a light golden orange aromas are lovely with lots of citrus (grapefruit and a little lemon). Flavor is super clean with a very nice hops kick. The malt is perfectly balanced against the almost stinging hops presence.

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 8 Oct 2010) Golden amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity, malty nose with notes of citrus, orange and pine needles. Fruity, malty taste with citrus, caramel and some pine needles. Generous piney and citrussy bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with balanced sweetness. Tasty and very nice.

Shipped to me by my wife on a trip to Portland. Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a vibrant golden color with a huge foamy orange-white head that lingered and produced great lacing. The aroma was strong grapefruit and lemon with a light floral presence and a tangy and sour undertone. The flavor was sweet, tangy and fruity with notes of grapefruit, pine, lemon and a sour caramel undertone. The flavor was long, sour and fruity. Fairly full bodied. Nice.
