Suan Mei Tang 酸梅汤 is a traditional sour plum drink brewed by Beijingers during the hot summer months. For the first chapter of this brew at Moonzen Brewery, we took the essence of this “老北京” drink – smoked sour plums, hibiscus, hawthorn berries and dried orange peel – and infused them into a wheat beer. The second batch of this crisp, refreshing beer will be brewed in Beijing at 京A in Spring 2016, hence the name, “One Beer, Two (brewing) Systems”. 干杯!

Bottle at The Roundhouse, Hong Kong. Hazy light amber with a small head. This was a special one with smoke, herbs, light grapefruit and some bread. Also some ash. Drinkable but not my kind of beer to be honest.
