Captain Sig's Deadliest Ale

I picked this up while on vacation on the west coast. Deadliest Catch is one of my favorite shows, so how could I resist buying this??? It’s pretty decent, I really haven’t tried an IRA before. Appearance is a dark red amber with a white head. Aroma is of skunky hops and rich malts. This is a pretty crisp but considerably malty ale. It’s pretty good stuff, a drink fit for a captain!

Malty aroma with a sea tang. Poured red with a thin white head, a little lacing. Full flavour Malty with a hop wrapper, sweet without cloying, hop without overwhelming. Lingering finish, I’m still tasting it. This is a bear that stays with you.

Tap at Pizzeria Paradiso. Dark amber, small white head, solid delicate lacing. Aroma of scotch. Taste is very bitter from start to finish. Slightly out of balance, but not too bad.

Hazy amber with a medium beige head. Sweet aroma with plenty of hops, pine, grapefruits and toasted malt. Hoppy flavour with pine, grapefruits and toasted malt. Finished bitter.

cloudy amber, smooth large offwhite head. flowery and sweet malty aroma. flavor is very faint mouldy, hoppy, caramel, nice bitterness, ends sweet and bitter.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of Tweety. Pours a hazy amber with a creamy off-white head. Skewed hoppy aroma - kinda overripe fruit, very American. Medium body, sweet caramel and overripe fruit with a rough hoppy finish. Not the most sophisticated of IPA’s but pleasant alright. 280110

(On tap) Presented as "100 meter IPA". Very unclear amber golden with a creamy, yellowish brown head leaving some lacework. Lightly sweet, fruity nose. Medium body with a very soft mouthfeel. Sweetish base of caramel malt and then a somewhat brutal hopping with a grapefruitish bitterness. 240307

bottle - Pours murky amber with an off-white head. It smells of caramel malt and citrus hops. The flavor is similar with very caramel rich malt and tons of hops that throws in some citrus character. It’s pretty intense for a single IPA and has more body than is usual. Nice brew.

bottle - Pours lightly hazy amber with a medium sized off white head. It smells of citrus hops and lightly roasted caramel malt. The flavor is moderately hopped with citrus and a touch of pine. The caramel malt provides ample sweetness and being a red ale has a different malt profile than a typical IPA. It’s medium bodied and a lingering bitter finish. Good.

Bottle 65cl.Unclear medium amber orange color with a large, frothy, good lacing, fully lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, pine, orange light grapefruit, plum notes. Flavor is light heavy sweet and peel bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. 22 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy orange with a huge and slight tan head. Aroma is caramelish, pinewood and grapefruit hoppy. Solid caramelish and fruity hoppy flavoured. Dry and caramelish malty flavoured finish. Lingering roasted and caramelish finish.

22 fl oz bottle. Pours clear and golden orange with a huge off-white to light tan head. Smooth peach fruity hops aroma with a dry caramel malt presence. Dry wooden and pine hops base flavoured with a dark malt to breadish note. Smooth hops flavoured towards the finish. Dry and bitter finish with a long lasting malt and a slight spiced note.
