From tap at the brewpub. Pours almost clear and golden orange with a one finger thick and white head. Meaty smoked aroma. Flavour is sweet with a nice smoked note following. Leading towards a meaty flavour of bacon. Light acidic touch. Subdued bitterness into the far finish.

bottled, thank you jeverszeuge. Mahogany colour, hazy, large beige head. Aroma of malt and smoke. Slightly sour flavour with a smokey background. Pleasantly malty and hoppy with a touch of chocolate and cocoa powder. I am not sure whether the sourness is meant to be like that - otherwise it would be a really nice Smoked.

Bottled. Mahogany colour, rich airy head. Evident beechwood smokiness. Medium bodied and medium sweet with mild, soft buttery malt. Lightly fruity and ashy. Low-medium smoke intensity. Good without being fantastic.

Cloudy yellow, medium head. Smoke, hay, cheap ham and over cooked vegetables aroma. Flavour = smoked maize and cabbage. I have never tasted that, but now I know what it would be like...

Huge, dense, whipped eggwhite-like head over lemon-yellow beer; some lacing. Smoked nose from the word ’go’ - but it is the smoke from a lighted match, sulphur imposed on the ham, or the hearth smoking near burn-out. It is not unnice, but I think next to a Schlenkerla, this would appear crude, as a cabbage next to asparagus tips. In the taste the same kind of smokiness, but on the good side, it is not overpowering. It remains sulphury, a wet woodblock glowing in the fireplace. Behind this hides some sweet malt, babycorn or other primeur vegetable from the delicatessenjar. In the end, the sulphur accumulates, making it slightly less palatable. Light to medium bodied, slick, and a bit of astringency backthroat. Original, if not really great Rauchbier. Special brewery, this one. Thanks, SS-DD

(swing top bottle, with thanks to Jevers Zeuge!) Slightly hazy, golden colour with a foamy, slowly lacing white head of medium size. Moderately yeasty and smoke-malty aroma, which reminds me of smoked fish in a positive way with a touch of citrus and distinctive grainy notes coming through. Light sweet flavour, rather light bodied with a well-carbonated, smooth mouthfeel. Grainy and smoke-malty taste; the delicate smokiness lingers into the grainy and slightly bitter finish. Well-matured (for brewpub standards), easy going smoked beer.

Bottled. Pale golden with a white head. The aroma has some sourness, in addition to a light smoke-aroma, bacon and hops. Medium smoked flavor, but also a bit sweetness and some sourness. Medium body. (060518)
