In 1873 in a small place in Banja Luka, beside the Vrbas grove, a brave little Banja Luka brewery was created by the work of a trappist monk from the Marija Zvijezda monastery. The founder of this small brewery was Franz Pfanner, the leader of the Trappist Order in Banja Luka, who together with other monks, besides the brewery, also established a cheese factory to produce the famous Trappista cheese, as well as one of the first power plants in Europe, adhering to his modest lifestyle and chore "Pray and work" ("Ora et labora").

Shared 11.2 oz. bottle. Hazy straw with a white head. Aroma is grain and grass with faint honey notes. Taste is grain and grass with lightly fruity elements. Mild hop bitterness. No skunky or metallic tastes, a definite plus.

Pours a clear golden color, topped with a decent frothy wite head. Mild malty aroma, some grassy notes. Taste starts with a slight sweetness, followed by nicely bitter body. Refreshing, crisp and easily drinkable. Really nice lager.

Can, 0.50l, courtesy of P&E. Clear golden color with large rocky white head, nice lacing and soft visible carbonation. Aroma is grassy, grainy, papery and a bit skunky. Taste starts with light sweet grainy malt, following is worty, grassy sour, dusty with some metallic notes, somewhat spicy, but certainly crisp and dry mouthfeel with moderate bitter finish. Light body, watery texture and lively carbonation in palate. Thanks, but no thanks...

Bottled shared by Travlr at the April 5, 2014 Charlottesville tasting. Thanks for the rare country tick! Pours a hazy golden color with not much of a head. Sweet malt aroma. Raisin and a bit of salt. Cloying. The taste is sweet cereal grain, raisin, a mild hint of hops. Low carbonation, thin body.
