Barley Wine dates back to before the Napoleonic Wars. Back then, it was considered unpatriotic to drink French wine, the British were forced to find an alternative. The high alcohol content and bitterness combined with caramel, dried fruits and oak give Midtfyns Barley Wine a very well-balanced and unique taste.
Our Barley Wine is the perfect dessert beer and goes well with mild and creamy cheese. It also compliments rich dishes, such as like osso buco and roast pork. Midtfyns Barley Wine can also be used as a marinade to create a fantastic flavored dish to remember!

Bottle at home. Three year old bottle. Pours a slightly hazy dark orange color with a small beige head that fades fast. Compact aroma of liqueur, caramel, leather, oak, marzipan, dried apricot and some alcohol. The flavor is sweet and powerful, similar but with more toffee, liqueur, oak and brown sugar. Full-bodied, silky mouth feel, and has a light bitterness. A heavy, complex and sweet BW.

500ml bottle. Barely clear, deep copper colour with small to average, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Sweet-ish malty aroma, notes of raisin, plum, caramel, candied fruit, a touch of sherry, marsala. Taste is slightly sweet caramel malty, hints of orange liqueur, sugar powder, a touch of raisin and plum; temperate sweetness, well hidden alcohol. Oily texture, soft, minimally sticky palate.

Bottle: Almost clear, chestnut-amber coloured, slowly collapsing off-White creamy head; mild to moderate raisiny and nutty nose, a small amout of toasted malt detectable; moderate to solid sweet sugary flavour, barely full bodied, quite soft; lingering sweet vinous and boozy finish with a slight tartness in the very end. Sweet and monotonous...
