Barley Wine dates back to before the Napoleonic Wars. Back then, it was considered unpatriotic to drink French wine, the British were forced to find an alternative. The high alcohol content and bitterness combined with caramel, dried fruits and oak give Midtfyns Barley Wine a very well-balanced and unique taste.
Our Barley Wine is the perfect dessert beer and goes well with mild and creamy cheese. It also compliments rich dishes, such as like osso buco and roast pork. Midtfyns Barley Wine can also be used as a marinade to create a fantastic flavored dish to remember!

500mL bottle, pours an opaque dark amber / mahogany with a medium beige head. Aroma of caramel malts, vegetal notes, and dark fruits. Flavour brings out caramel malt, toffee, and residual sugars. Very well-balanced, without too much residual sugars. Decent stuff.

Bottle. Pours slightly hazy darkish amber with airy off-white head. Clear aroma of fruit, malt, yeast and caramel. Booze in the long nose. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, with fruity and estery touches and pronounced, bitter alcohol notes. Bittersweet aftertaste with mild hints of metal. An OK Barley Wine, but I have tasted better beers of this style.

Dark copper, small offwhite head. Sweet, jammy aroma. Malty caramel, raisins, spicy and a dark kind of bitterness. Toffee and alcohol. A little sticky, a bit too sweet.

Bottle. Pours hazy nutty brown with medium light brown head. Aroma is malt syrup, wheat bread, honey and prunes. Taste is extremely sweet and light bitter. Body is syrupy with light fizzy carbonation. Finish is long and very sweet with notes of malt, caramel, blueberries and sweet chocolate. Overall very (too) sweet on it?s own but it may be nice with a dessert.

Appearance: Clear deep copper color with a tan head. Off white head. Ok lacing.
Aroma: Fruity and sweet malty.
Palate: Medium to full body. Sweet and a mild bitterness. Average to soft carbonation.
Taste: Sweet malty, vinous and fruity. Very well hidden alcohol.
Overall impression: A bit to sweet for me. Probably a quite typical barley wine as it should be. I am a hop head..
Personal stats: Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Fredrikstad, Norway
