Barley Wine dates back to before the Napoleonic Wars. Back then, it was considered unpatriotic to drink French wine, the British were forced to find an alternative. The high alcohol content and bitterness combined with caramel, dried fruits and oak give Midtfyns Barley Wine a very well-balanced and unique taste.
Our Barley Wine is the perfect dessert beer and goes well with mild and creamy cheese. It also compliments rich dishes, such as like osso buco and roast pork. Midtfyns Barley Wine can also be used as a marinade to create a fantastic flavored dish to remember!

About 100ml poured from a bottle. Ring around the rim of the glass atop of a deep, dark amber body. Vinous aroma of dried fruits. Jam-like flavour with raisin, apricot and other dried fruits joined by sweet dark malts. Dry warming alcohol. Well bodied. Should be a great sipper. Very sweet, though (CBF, 06.05.2010).

Bottled. A cloudy deep red beer with a lazing red-brown head. The aroma has strong notes of over ripe fruits and alcohol, as well as medium notes of malt and wood. The flavor is very sweet with strong notes of alcohol, over ripe fruits, and malt, as well as medium notes of caramel and wood, leading to a sweet and smooth finish. The alcohol tickles and warms the palate.

Clear amber with a tiny off white head. Sweet aroma with toasted malt, caramel and overripe plums. Sweet flavour with toasted malt, caramel and hoppy notes. Finished bitter.

hazy amber, smooth light yellow head. hoppy spicy barley wine aroma, a little bit too much old beer aroma, but that’s just me not very fond of old beer style barley wine’s in general. Flavor is old beer (faint), sweetness (hay or sugarish), caramel, candy. raisins, nice warming barley wine, however a toffee like bitterness is a bit of a distractor from the otherwise nice flavor profile.

Biottle. Pours a dark anber color with a small off-white head. Has a slightly roasted malty sweetish caramel and dark fruit aroma. Sweetish malty caramel flavor with some bitter hints and hints of dark fruit. Has a sweetish malty bitter spicy finish with hints of dark fruit in the aftertaste.

Bottle 50cl.Clear medium to dark amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, toffee. Red-amber color. Nice caramel and malt aroma, mature, with cookies. Very rich malt flavor, good body, caramel flavor too, sweet; good bitterness, good hopping, nice ending warmth. Medium complexity, but extremely enjoyable.

Bottle, at Copenhagen Beerfestival. It’s a clear, dark brown beer with a decent beige head. Slightly herbal nose with hints of DMS, caramel and roasted malts. Alcohol, sweetness, caramel, roasted malts, some herbal notes and a pleasant bitterness. Warming and full-bodied, with a bitter and sweet finish. Well, not my idea of a Barley Wine, but sure drinkable. Rating: 6-4-6-4-13-3.3. 090517

It has a nice aroma with resiny, citrusy hops over a foundation of sweetish, malty hops leaving dried fruits and some caramel. A hint of licorice and cellar lurks in the back. In the mouth it’s full-bodied and smooth, some warmth from the alcohol also shows up, especially in the very end. There’s dried fruits, some caramel and hints of licorice in the flavor, as well as a good citrusy, resiny hop impact leaving a balancing bitterness. Overall, a pretty good beer that should be more pronounced. On the other hand, it’s dangerously easy to drink the way it presents itself now. 20100428
