Barley Wine dates back to before the Napoleonic Wars. Back then, it was considered unpatriotic to drink French wine, the British were forced to find an alternative. The high alcohol content and bitterness combined with caramel, dried fruits and oak give Midtfyns Barley Wine a very well-balanced and unique taste.
Our Barley Wine is the perfect dessert beer and goes well with mild and creamy cheese. It also compliments rich dishes, such as like osso buco and roast pork. Midtfyns Barley Wine can also be used as a marinade to create a fantastic flavored dish to remember!

Clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, dried fruit and alcohol. Flavor is quite sweet and light bitter. Sweet and alcoholic finish. Not as sweet and alcoholic as many other barley wines. 181010

Bottled at Carlsens Kvarter, Odense. Hazy mahogany colour, lasting head. Malty bready nose. Sweet with some some strawberry esters, full bodied with lovely deep malt character. Very English style barle ywine, where rich deep malt by far outweighs hops. Mildy warming finish. Lovely!

500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10.0%. Copper colour, large off-white head. Malty aroma, also strong notes of dark dried fruits and caramel, hints of oak. The fairly sweet flavour has notes of dark dried fruits, brown syrup and plenty of caramel, hints of oak. The bitterness is quite moderate, a little more wouldn’t hurt. Still a decent barleywine. I hate myself for not having some Blue Stilton cheese to go with it.

At Borefts BF 2010. Nice toffee aroma. Sweet butter, touch of malty dryness. Sweetish, straightforward Barley wine. Lasting decent dryness. Not overly sweet, some caramel. Subtle. Not too extreme. Dominant toffee flavour.

(Draught at Stockholm Beer Festival, 9 Oct 2010) Reddish amber colour with frothy, beige head. Fruity, malty nose with notes of red berries, caramel and vinous hints of alcohol. Malty, fruity taste with caramel, red berries, sweet and vinous finish with a spicy bitterness. Almost full body, fairly sweet with warming alcohol. Nice barley wine, possibly a bit boozy.

(Bottle, BBE 21-01-2012, at Mallaskukko, Turku) Aroma combined dark fruits and malts nicely. Alcohol forced its way through, too, but not too intensely. Palate was really dry which made me think the beer might not be fresh - no problem with this style. Strong maltiness continued in the taste with some dried plum and medium bitterness and sweetness. For such a strong and heavy brew this was easy to drink and flavour remained nice all the time.

Medium beige head. Deep dark red body. Syrupy fruity papery aroma with floral caramel and earth notes. Dry-sweet earthy floral fruity taste with roasty sherry and paper notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, faintly hot mouthfeel. Dry earthy fruity wild berry aftertaste with toffee floral musty notes. There are also smoky ash notes. It’s fairly sweet. Delicate, harmonic, and subtle, but slightly unfresh and musty. Still a great beer. (0.5l bottle, Fish and Beer, Copenhagen.)

@CPH BeerFest2010. Slightly hazy rubyish brown colour with a small off-white fluffy head. Aroma is caramel malts, alcohol, raisins, some mild vanilla as well as some fudge and mild fruityness. Flavour is quite much the same in a nice balance. Pleasant.
